{"id":499860,"date":"2026-01-07T21:59:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/499860\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T21:59:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T21:59:10","slug":"secret-service-busts-400m-card-skimming-ring-in-2025-crackdown-across-the-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/499860\/","title":{"rendered":"Secret Service busts $400M card skimming ring in 2025 crackdown across the nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/americas-news-now\/secret-service-keeps-watch-as-east-wing-gutted-for-trumps-grand-ballroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secret Service<\/a> revealed on Wednesday that it partnered with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in operations across the country which curbed more than $400 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/wset.com\/news\/nation-world\/fact-check-team-states-tighten-oversight-on-childcare-funds-amid-fraud-concerns-health-human-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fraud<\/a> from card skimming operations in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Secret Service agents and law enforcement partners visited more than 9,000 businesses, leading to the inspection of nearly 60,000 point-of-sale terminals, gas pumps and ATMs and the removal of 411 illegal skimming devices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese operations are only the start. We are working closely with our local, state, federal and international law enforcement partners to investigate and dismantle the criminal organizations that perpetrate these crimes,\u201d Kyo Dolan, Assistant Director for the U.S. Secret Service\u2019s Office of Field Operations said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secretservice.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/2026\/01\/secret-service-card-skimming-operations-prevent-more-400-million-fraud#:~:text=In%20total%2C%20law%20enforcement%20visited,pumps%20and%20ATMs%20were%20inspected.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The operations occurred in dozens of cities, including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Anchorage, Boston, Orlando, Charlotte, Buffalo, San Diego, New York City, San Antonio, Baltimore, Tampa, Atlanta, Savannah, Memphis, Miami, and Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>The teams also distributed literature about Electronic Benefit Transfer fraud and skimming, so businesses are able to identify skimming devices.<\/p>\n<p>Criminals will use skimming devices to record the card information from EBT cards and other banking cards and then \u201cencode that data onto another card with a magnetic strip.\u201d Law enforcement agencies have reportedly seen an uptick in skimming of EBT cards, which are food assistance benefits given to the most vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. Secret Service is committed to combatting EBT fraud and credit card skimming throughout the country.
