Elmhurst police warn of car burglary crew after 4 vehicles burglarized | Video<\/a><\/p>\nNobody was hurt in the shooting, police said.<\/p>\n
The suspects drove away in a gray Genesis sedan; police said the car had a stolen Illinois license plate.<\/p>\n
The victim said he and his family are shaken, and he’s frustrated that a couple of thieves would go so far as to potentially kill someone over a couple hundred dollars in tools.<\/p>\n
Although he has to replace some tools and fix his damaged property, the victim said he and his family are safe. And he’s thankful to be alive.<\/p>\n
Al Matias has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. He says there have been very few incidents.<\/p>\n
“It doesn’t make sense. It just makes you wonder. You know, what’s going on in those people’s minds?” Matias said.<\/p>\n
Jim Oakes says the noise woke his wife.<\/p>\n
“She heard some banging. And when she got up, I got up. I said, ‘was it shots?’ And she said, ‘she didn’t know,'” Oakes said. “You know, I got kids, too. And, you know, I’m hoping it doesn’t come my way.”<\/p>\n
There’s no ongoing threat to residents, but residents feel their sense of security isn’t what it used to be.<\/p>\n
“It’s basically the sanctity of your home where you live. It’s just violated. And I mean, I hope they can recover, OK. And, you know, we’ll stand around to support them. But it’s just something you have to live with in these days and times that, you know, something like this could happen, even if it’s a very quiet, nice neighborhood. You know, any given day something like this could happen,” Matias said.<\/p>\n
