In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/hardware\/dells-ces-2026-chat-was-the-most-pleasingly-un-ai-briefing-ive-had-in-maybe-5-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview with PC Gamer<\/a> ahead of CES, Dell has made it clear its 2026 products aren\u2019t all about being AI-first, and it\u2019s moving beyond being \u201call about\u201d AI PCs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cWe\u2019re very focused on delivering upon the AI capabilities of a device\u2014in fact everything that we\u2019re announcing has an NPU in it \u2014 but what we\u2019ve learned over the course of this year, especially from a consumer perspective, is they\u2019re not buying based on AI,\u201d admits Kevin Terwilliger, Dell\u2019s head of product, in the PC Gamer interview. \u201cIn fact I think AI probably confuses them more than it helps them understand a specific outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">It\u2019s a surprisingly honest admission from one of Microsoft\u2019s biggest PC partners, especially as the software giant continues to push AI features into Windows and try and convince consumers to buy Copilot Plus PCs. Dell was one of Microsoft\u2019s partners for the initial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/20\/24160486\/microsoft-copilot-plus-ai-arm-chips-pc-surface-event\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Copilot Plus PC launch<\/a> in 2024, adding Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon X Elite chips <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/20\/24160859\/dell-qualcomm-snapdragon-x-elite-plus-xps-laptops\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to its popular XPS 13<\/a> and Inspiron line of laptops. Dell even added Qualcomm\u2019s Cloud AI chips to its high-end laptops <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/668571\/dells-upcoming-pro-max-plus-workstation-laptops-are-getting-dedicated-npus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last year<\/a>, boosting AI performance for local models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">But most of the benefits in Copilot Plus PCs come from the improved battery life and performance of Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon X Elite chips, instead of AI features alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Microsoft even struggled to launch its Recall flagship AI feature for Copilot Plus PCs. The controversial feature eventually launched nearly a year after it was originally scheduled, because the feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/6\/13\/24178144\/microsoft-windows-ai-recall-feature-delay\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was delayed<\/a> following concerns raised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/6\/3\/24170305\/microsoft-windows-recall-ai-screenshots-security-privacy-issues\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by security experts<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dell has revealed that consumers aren\u2019t buying PCs for AI features right now.
