{"id":500191,"date":"2026-01-08T01:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T01:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/500191\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T01:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T01:11:10","slug":"corporation-for-public-broadcasting-closing-its-doors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/500191\/","title":{"rendered":"Corporation for Public Broadcasting closing its doors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">WI (WEAU) &#8211; The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is closing its doors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On Monday the CPB\u2019s Board of Directors announced it voted in favor of dissolving the organization following Congress\u2019 decision to end its federal financial backing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">CPB officials considered placing itself in hibernation &#8211; just in case Congress decided to restore its appropriations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">However, that move was rejected according to the CPB\u2019s President and CEO who said doing so could create quote \u201cpolitical manipulation or misuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">CPB made its debut in 1968 and funded PBS, NPR and hundreds of radio and television stations across the nation over the decades. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wisconsin Public Media released the following statement Wednesday:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote | fst-italic bg-light p-4 border-start\">\n<p class=\"mb-2\">While we are disappointed by the end of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, this news wasn\u2019t unexpected following last year\u2019s rescission of federal funding for public broadcasting. The end of that funding &#8211; and the end of the CPB &#8211; will affect Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin, but our services are not ending.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WEAU.
