But that <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacewalk-history.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacewalk-history.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spacewalk<\/a> has been postponed.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"e63c39e1-36ec-46d3-bd8c-44d76e8bdb96-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;The agency is monitoring a medical concern with a crew member that arose Wednesday afternoon aboard the orbital complex,&#8221; NASA officials said in an emailed statement on Wednesday (Jan. 7). &#8220;Due to medical privacy, it is not appropriate for NASA to share more details about the crew member. The situation is stable. NASA will share additional details, including a new date for the upcoming spacewalk, later.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"9774a950-d8ea-4d45-83ac-a39a54596449\">When the spacewalk happens, it will be the first for Cardman and the 10th for Fincke, who will tie the record for most EVAs by a NASA astronaut.<\/p>\n<p>Five American astronauts have 10 spacewalks under their belt to date: Bob Behnken, Stephen Bowen, Chris Cassidy, Michael Lopez-Alegria and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/38691-peggy-whitson-astronaut-biography.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/38691-peggy-whitson-astronaut-biography.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peggy Whitson<\/a>. The world record is 16, held by cosmonaut Anatoly Solevyev.<\/p>\n<p>The Jan. 8 spacewalk was designed to help prepare one of the ISS&#8217; power channels for the future installation of a new International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array, or <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronauts-spacewalk-space-station-irosa-solar-array-deployed\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronauts-spacewalk-space-station-irosa-solar-array-deployed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iROSA<\/a> for short.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once installed, the array will provide additional power for the orbital laboratory, including critical support of its safe and controlled deorbit,&#8221; NASA officials wrote in a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/nasa-to-cover-us-spacewalks-94-95-at-international-space-station\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/nasa-to-cover-us-spacewalks-94-95-at-international-space-station\/\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"noopener\">spacewalk preview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Fincke was designated the EVA&#8217;s &#8220;crewmember 1&#8221; and was set to wear a spacesuit with red stripes, according to the preview. Cardman, &#8220;crewmember 2,&#8221; was set to wear an unmarked suit.<\/p>\n<p id=\"dc1bafb0-759e-4d49-93d5-bb6f78e48aef\">NASA has also been planning another spacewalk this month, targeted for Jan. 15.
