PHOENIX \u2014 A self-driving Waymo car was recently seen moving along the new light rail tracks in south Phoenix.<\/p>\n
Video footage<\/a> recorded by a bystander Wednesday morning near Central and Southern avenues captured a Waymo vehicle sitting on the light rail tracks and a passenger exiting the autonomous car. A light rail car is seen not far behind the Waymo vehicle as the autonomous car then moves forward along the tracks.<\/p>\n The video<\/a> then shows the Waymo car reserving a bit on the tracks. \u00a0<\/p>\n Phoenix police said they received a call in this area on Wednesday but the Waymo car had left by the time officers arrived. There was no reported disruption to light rail service, police said.<\/p>\n 12News reached out to Waymo about the incident and has not yet gotten a response. The presence of Waymo’s self-driving cars has been increasing across the Valley over the last few years.<\/p>\n Wednesday’s traffic mishap occurred on a stretch of tracks that are still relatively new to the Phoenix area.<\/p>\n The extension of Valley Metro’s light rail system<\/a> into south Phoenix opened last summer after years of construction.
