Last year, 14-year-old artist Andres Valencia<\/a> was particularly busy\u2014more so than the average teenager. In April 2025, the young prodigy released his very own art book<\/a> with a Big Five publisher, and, a few months later, launched a limited-edition print collection<\/a> with the renowned Mourlot Editions<\/a>. This is already impressive enough, but this March, Valencia is about to meet yet another milestone that many artists dream about for decades: his very own solo exhibition.<\/p>\n

Slated to open at the Nassau County Museum of Art<\/a> on March 21, Profiles in Color<\/a> gathers several of Valencia\u2019s Cubist<\/a>-inspired works. These large-scale portraits vibrate with bold color palettes, illustrative brush strokes, and geometric forms, transforming human subjects into abstract, splintered caricatures. At first glance, these distorted compositions bear a resemblance to those by Pablo Picasso<\/a> and even Amedeo Modigliani<\/a>, but Valencia maintains a more playful, intuitive approach, resulting in something a little more buoyant rather than moody. That distinction\u2014and tension\u2014is part of Valencia\u2019s appeal, which has exploded in recent years in the art market and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have imagined this moment, but didn\u2019t know it would arrive this soon,\u201d the San Diego-based artist said<\/a> of Profiles in Color. \u201cThe Nassau County Museum is the perfect place for my solo exhibition. It\u2019s very exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Valencia\u2019s upcoming exhibition may evoke Cubism most strongly, but the teen cites myriad sources of inspiration. Aside from Picasso and Modigliani, Valencia gravitates toward artists such as Gerhard Richter<\/a>, Vincent van Gogh<\/a>, Francis Bacon<\/a>, and Michelangelo<\/a>, as well as Raphael Mazzucco and Salvador Dal\u00ed<\/a>, both of whom his father has collected. In fact, this at-home collection was what originally drew Valencia to painting when he was only 5 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want people to know that art and expression has no age limit. Young and old people can be creative,\u201d the young artist noted in a recent interview<\/a> with Hypebeast. \u201cI express myself with paint and I want people to enjoy and be inspired also.\u201d<\/p>\n

Valencia first emerged on the artistic scene in 2021 at Art Miami, where he became the youngest artist in the fair\u2019s history to exhibit his work. In the years since then, he has accumulated some 285,000 followers on Instagram<\/a>; been collected by celebrities like Eva Longoria, Sof\u00eda Vergara, and soccer star Sergio Ramos; showcased his talents on Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>; and generated thousands of dollars in auction sales at Phillips<\/a>. He has, in turn, wielded that fame for charitable causes, donating more than $1 million worth of art to UNICEF<\/a> and amfAR<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n

Profiles in Color: The Paintings of Andres Valencia will open on March 21 at the Nassau County Museum of Art, and be on view through July 12, 2026.<\/p>\n
