{"id":500906,"date":"2026-01-08T08:21:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T08:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/500906\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T08:21:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T08:21:29","slug":"crypto-kingpin-charged-with-fraud-in-nyc-is-arrested-in-cambodia-deported-to-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/500906\/","title":{"rendered":"Crypto kingpin charged with fraud in NYC is arrested in Cambodia, deported to China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An alleged crypto-fraud kingpin accused by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn of overseeing brutal forced labor camps has been arrested in Cambodia \u2014 but it\u2019s not clear if he\u2019ll ever face a judge in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Chen Zhi, 37, was arrested Tuesday and deported to China, <a href=\"https:\/\/kiripost.com\/stories\/chen-zhi-arrested-in-cambodia-deported-to-china-for-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media outlets in Cambodia reported.<\/a> China has no extradition treaty with the U.S., and Chinese law bars the extradition of its own citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Chen, who\u2019s described by federal prosecutors here as a citizen of China, Cambodia, Vanuatu, St. Lucia and Cyprus, was indicted in the U.S. in October on wire fraud conspiracy and money-laundering conspiracy charges. The feds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/chairman-prince-group-indicted-operating-cambodian-forced-labor-scam-compounds-engaged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also announced<\/a> they had seized $15 billion in Bitcoin from Chen, in what prosecutors described as the largest forfeiture action in Justice Department\u00a0 history.<\/p>\n<p>The founder and chairman of the Prince Holding Group, Chen oversaw forced work camps in Cambodia where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2024\/04\/04\/pig-butchering-online-crypto-investment-scams-fleeced-new-yorkers-of-10-5m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cpig butchering\u201d scammers<\/a> contacted victims through text messages or social networks, then persuaded them to invest in bogus crypto funds, the feds allege.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Beaten and abused workers in Cambodian forced labor camps made to run these scams on unsuspecting victims. (Evidence photo)<\/p>\n<p>Cambodia\u2019s Interior Ministry confirmed his arrest in a statement, the English-language <a href=\"https:\/\/kiripost.com\/stories\/chen-zhi-arrested-in-cambodia-deported-to-china-for-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kiripost reported.<\/a> Chen was stripped of his Cambodian citizenship in December, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPig butchering\u201d scammers typically cold-contact victims with a wrong-number message, then try to keep communicating by chatting up investment opportunities, claiming they need money for an emergency or starting a fake romance. (Evidence photo)<\/p>\n<p>Prince Holding Group employed thousands of trafficked migrant workers who came to Cambodia looking for work, trapping them in compounds with \u201cvast dormitories surrounded by high walls and barbed wire,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/media\/1416266\/dl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the feds said in court filings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chen oversaw 10 of these compounds, authorizing beatings and violence to keep the workers in line, the feds allege.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Beaten and abused workers in Cambodian forced labor camps made to run these scams on unsuspecting victims.
