One Battle After Another and The Studio lead the nominations for this year\u2019s Actor awards.<\/p>\n
The Actor awards<\/a> were previously known as the Screen Actors Guild (Sag) awards but were renamed last year. The name change was to provide \u201cclearer recognition in terms of what the show is about\u201d, according to those involved.<\/p>\n Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s counterculture comedy thriller received seven nominations for cast members Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor and Sean Penn, as well as for the acting and stunt ensemble.<\/p>\n The $130m budget film was also named best picture at last weekend\u2019s Critics Choice awards and leads the nominations for this weekend\u2019s Golden Globes.<\/p>\n The film was followed by Ryan Coogler\u2019s smash-hit vampire horror Sinners<\/a>, which received five nominations.<\/p>\n The two films will battle it out in the ensemble category with Frankenstein, Marty Supreme and Hamnet.<\/p>\n DiCaprio is up against Sinners\u2019 Michael B Jordan for lead actor alongside Blue Moon\u2019s Ethan Hawke, Bugonia\u2019s Jesse Plemons and Marty Supreme\u2019s Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet.<\/p>\n In the lead actress category, Infiniti faces If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You\u2019s Rose Byrne, Bugonia\u2019s Emma Stone, Song Sung Blue\u2019s Kate Hudson and Hamnet\u2019s Jessie Buckley.<\/p>\n In the supporting actor category, Del Toro and Penn face Sinners\u2019 breakout Miles Caton, Frankenstein\u2019s Jacob Elordi and Hamnet\u2019s Paul Mescal.<\/p>\n In the supporting actress category, Taylor faces Sinners\u2019 Wunmi Mosaku, Weapons\u2019 Amy Madigan, Marty Supreme\u2019s Odessa A\u2019zion and Wicked: For Good\u2019s Ariana Grande.<\/p>\n In the film categories, notable snubs include Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, Joel Edgerton for Train Dreams, Dwayne Johnson for The Smashing Machine and actors from Sentimental Value.<\/p>\n Seth Rogen in The Studio. Photograph: Apple TV+<\/p>\n The small screen side is led by Apple\u2019s breakout comedy series The Studio, which received five nominations for actors Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O\u2019Hara and Ike Barinholtz, as well as an ensemble nod.<\/p>\n The comedy ensemble category also includes Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks and last year\u2019s winner, Only Murders in the Building.<\/p>\n In the lead comedy actress category, Hahn and O\u2019Hara will compete against Wednesday\u2019s Jenna Ortega, Palm Royale\u2019s Kristen Wiig and Hacks\u2019 Jean Smart, who has won the award three times before.<\/p>\n For lead comedy actor, Rogen and Barinholtz are up against Nobody Wants This\u2019s Adam Brody, A Man on the Inside\u2019s Ted Danson and last year\u2019s winner Martin Short for Only Murders in the Building.<\/p>\n While The Bear received an ensemble nomination, it didn\u2019t score any individual actor nominations after years of being an awards heavyweight.<\/p>\n The drama categories were led by The White Lotus, which received four nominations for Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins and the ensemble cast.<\/p>\n The drama ensemble category also includes The Diplomat, Landman, The Pitt and Severance.<\/p>\n In the drama actress category, Posey and Wood will be up against Severance\u2019s Britt Lower and Rhea Seehorn for the first season of Apple\u2019s acclaimed hit Pluribus.<\/p>\n For actor in a drama, Goggins faces off against The Morning Show\u2019s Billy Crudup, The Pitt\u2019s Noah Wyle, Paradise\u2019s Sterling K Brown and Slow Horses\u2019 Gary Oldman.<\/p>\n The final seasons of Stranger Things and Squid Game were only nominated for stunt ensemble in a TV show.<\/p>\n The limited series or television movies categories saw an impressive showing for Netflix\u2019s breakout drama Adolescence<\/a>, which scored four nominations for actors Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, Owen Cooper and Christine Tremarco.<\/p>\n Graham and Cooper will compete alongside Black Rabbit\u2019s Jason Bateman, Monster\u2019s Charlie Hunnam and The Beast in Me\u2019s Matthew Rhys.<\/p>\n Doherty and Tremarco face All Her Fault\u2019s Sarah Snook, Dying for Sex\u2019s Michelle Williams and The Beast in Me\u2019s Claire Danes.<\/p>\n
