Wall Street trading is not like dropping coins in a pair of coffee shop tip jars labeled \u201cChappell Roan\u201d and \u201cTaylor Swift.\u201d Nonetheless, the timing makes it hard not to ignore the symbolic power of this milestone. <\/p>\n<p>After all, Apple is in the middle of a predictable stretch\u2014on the verge of, well, <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/apple-iphone-schedule-2000686652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">releasing a lot of iPhones<\/a>, including, reportedly, a long-awaited foldable iPhone that, if the<a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/leaker-who-apple-is-suing-says-screw-it-heres-the-foldable-iphone-early-2000703449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> newly leaked information<\/a> is accurate, meets or slightly exceeds years of hype.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Looking for surprises from Apple? 2026 may not be your year. But may I interest you in Apple\u2019s updated smart home hub called a <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/apple-2026-hardware-releases-2000698996\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HomePad<\/a>, or perhaps the <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2025\/12\/11\/new-airtag-2-leak-reveals-five-improved-features-coming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AirTag 2<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, what has Alphabet been up to lately? For what it\u2019s worth, <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/google-started-the-year-behind-in-the-ai-race-it-ended-2025-on-top-150352574.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unexpectedly body slamming OpenAI in the frontier AI model race<\/a>. And on the transportation side, Alphabet earned a whole lot of press by <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/blackout-in-san-francisco-litters-streets-with-traffic-blocking-deactivated-waymos-2000702290\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filling San Francisco with disabled Waymo robotaxis<\/a>. Hey, no publicity is bad publicity. <\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t mean to create a dichotomy where Apple sounds wholesome and Alphabet\/Google sounds scary\u2014tech companies this size are all scary from a certain perspective.
