HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) \u2014 Gov. Josh Shapiro is kicking off his reelection campaign with events in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The governor, 52, announced Thursday morning he will seek a second term alongside Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, affirming his commitment to \u201ckeep getting stuff done.\u201d<\/p>\n
The announcement came in the form of a video highlighting the Shapiro administration\u2019s efforts to rebuild Philadelphia\u2019s I-95 following its collapse, boost small businesses, fund schools and hire more teachers, and invest in public safety, among other things.<\/p>\n

Shapiro unveils $51 billion budget proposal<\/a><\/p>\n The launch of Shapiro\u2019s reelection campaign comes several months after Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced her intention<\/a> to enter the governor\u2019s race.<\/p>\n When she announced her campaign, Garrity had promised to fix the problems that “Josh Shapiro has created” during his time as governor, blaming him for<\/a> higher energy bills and grocery prices. She\u2019s secured the Republican Party\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n Despite not announcing any plans for higher office, Shapiro\u2019s campaign is one likely to draw national attention.<\/p>\n \u201cEver since he won the governor\u2019s office in a near-landslide victory in 2022, Shapiro has been mentioned alongside Democratic contemporaries like California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and others as someone who could lead a national ticket,\u201d the Associated Press\u2019 Marc Levy reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n Shapiro was also said to be considered as a potential running mate in 2024 for Kamala Harris, who ultimately chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz instead.<\/p>\n The Pennsylvania governor on Monday issued a statement in support<\/a> of Walz, who decided not to seek reelection amid allegations of fraud in the state\u2019s daycare system.<\/p>\n Shapiro has been an outspoken advocate against political violence, having himself been the target of an arson attack back in April of 2025.<\/p>\n On Dec. 9, a state Senate committee announced it had issued three subpoenas<\/a> related to security upgrades at the governor’s private residence following the firebombing. The governor shot back at the subpoenas, accusing the committee of playing “political games.” <\/p>\n
