After Rhett Miller<\/a> helped wrap up 2025, A.V. Undercover season 10<\/a> is now ringing in the new year with roots rockers The Wood Brothers. Chris and Oliver Wood, along with Jano Rix and his melodica, dropped by Ella\u2019s Lounge above Brooklyn Paramount, ready with a blues-like twist on one of the biggest indie songs of the 2000s: Yeah Yeah Yeahs\u2019 \u201cMaps.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The band previously joined us for season three of A.V. Undercover<\/a>, back in the days of the fabled small, round room. \u201cMaps\u201d was much more familiar territory for the band\u2019s bassist, who was previously inspired by the Fever To Tell track\u2014which has proven more enduring than the debut album from which it sprang\u2014as part of a different folk outfit, Medeski Martin & Wood. Brother Oliver and Rix were at more of a loss, and as a trio they wondered \u201cHow the hell are the Wood Brothers gonna do this song?\u201d While not initially \u201cobvious,\u201d reimagining the yearning love song became a \u201cfun challenge,\u201d as lead singer Oliver crooned Karen O.\u2019s lyrics over a rumba beat. As for their approach to covers in general, Oliver says \u201cWe never try to copy them, because we can\u2019t beat what they already did. And that\u2019s already just an iconic song, so best to do it as differently as possible for us, and see what we can do with it.\u201d With their take on \u201cMaps,\u201d The Wood Brothers want to \u201ctrance [their] own way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
