(Supplied: CFA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Emergency warnings continue for numerous communities as a bushfire near Longwood in central Victoria burns through nearly 30,000 hectares, with <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-01-08\/bushfire-victoria-south-australia-heatwave-australia\/106210436\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106210436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">property losses confirmed in the small town of Ruffy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\"><a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-01-09\/fire-weather-heatwave-live-blog-victoria-sa-nsw\/106212116\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106212116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australia heatwave live updates<\/a>: Read our blog for the latest news as out-of-control bushfires burn and temperatures soar for a third day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ruffy Country Fire Authority (CFA) captain George Noye said on Friday morning the town had been &#8220;severely&#8221; impacted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The main street looks like a bomb&#8217;s gone off, we&#8217;ve lost a school \u2026 [the] CFA shed&#8217;s still standing, so that&#8217;s our hub at the moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The school, it no longer operates, but it was a community hub for us \u2026 so it&#8217;s absolutely devastating to see it go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Noye says he was able to protect his home and livestock, as well as his parents&#8217; and brother&#8217;s home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It&#8217;s gonna be days before we know the full extent and how many [properties are lost], it&#8217;s a pretty bad situation up here,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The community is incredibly resilient and \u2026 we&#8217;ll get through this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Thankfully, we&#8217;re all alive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">This morning, CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan warned he expected more towns to be impacted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The conditions were extreme yesterday. Don&#8217;t try to find shortcuts because you could end up driving straight into a fire front,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Victorian electricity distributor Powercor has strongly urged customers to plan ahead for today&#8217;s extreme weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Powercor network emergency manager Steve Rigoni said the forecast winds and lightning could damage electricity assets.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about heatwaves in Australia:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Tomorrow&#8217;s conditions are among the most severe we&#8217;ve faced in a long time. We&#8217;ll be operating our network on highly sensitive settings to reduce the risk of starting fires.
