{"id":502346,"date":"2026-01-08T22:42:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T22:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/502346\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T22:42:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T22:42:12","slug":"kate-winslet-says-mare-of-easttown-season-2-could-shoot-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/502346\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Winslet Says &#8216;Mare Of Easttown&#8217; Season 2 Could Shoot In 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong><br \/>EXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/kate-winslet\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kate-winslet\" data-tag=\"kate-winslet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kate Winslet<\/a> has told Deadline that there\u2019s a \u201cstrong likelihood\u201d of a second season of acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/hbo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hbo\" data-tag=\"hbo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HBO<\/a> murder mystery\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/mare-of-easttown\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mare-of-easttown\" data-tag=\"mare-of-easttown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mare of Easttown<\/a>\u00a0going before cameras in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEver since the seven-part drama, created\u00a0by Brad Ingelsby, about Mare Sheehan, a small town sergeant detective in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, investigating missing and murdered young women, gripped audiences in 2021, there have been on-and-off conversations between the show\u2019s top creatives \u2013 writer Ingelsby, director Craig Zobel, Winslet and HBO chieftains\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 about the possibility of bringing back the dogged detective, who loves to vape and chug down Rolling Rock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPlaying a cop who resides in the same house with four generations of her family, and the traumas that haunt them, plus the gruesome crimes her character delved into, left Winslet \u201cbeat,\u201d but \u201cgrateful\u201d she got to play her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Mare-of-Easttown-e1632178868108.jpg\" alt=\"Mare of Easttown\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"585\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t(L-R) Kate Winslet, Evan Peters and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley. (HBO)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHBO<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWinslet notes that initially\u00a0Mare of Easttown\u00a0was designed as a one-off single-season drama. \u201cIt was done and dusted, finished,\u201d says the\u00a0Titanic, Mildred Pierce,\u00a0and\u00a0Avatar\u00a0star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHowever, several months ago, while Winslet was in London editing\u00a0Goodbye June, her directorial debut now streaming on Netflix, the topic of more\u00a0Mare of Easttown\u00a0came up, \u201cand there was some conversations,\u201d she recalls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThey were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible. And so I think we probably will do it, and that\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve felt that,\u201d Winslet declares.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAsked when the new shows would be filmed, Winslet stressed that it \u201cwouldn\u2019t actually be this year, I reckon it would end up being 2027 to film it. There\u2019s a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWinslet shut down any further discussion about\u00a0Mare of Easttown 2\u00a0and I was not able to draw from her details pertaining to plot. However, during a chat we had a few years back, during awards season for \u00a0Ammonite, her excellent film with director Francis Lee, we got to talking about Mare Sheehan, and I idly wondered whether there would be a second season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Oscar winner stated then that it was \u201cdone, dusted, finished,\u201d but the only way to get her back to the Philly suburbs to play Mare again would be if \u201cthe story was too bloody good to resist, because it took a lot out of all of us filming Mare. We were filming during Covid. Brad\u2019s the same. We\u2019ll only do it again if the story\u2019s compelling enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSo, it would appear that the \u201cbloody good\u201d target she cited\u00a0has been reached.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe new storyline must be bloody good to entice them all back. I just rewatched\u00a0Mare of Easttown, and it\u2019s a masterwork about motherhood, family, community and murder. Zobel\u2019s direction and the way Ingelsby\u2019s story wove in the lives of so many of Mare\u2019s nearest and dearest, exploring the most heartbreakingly chilling and intimate details of their lives, enthralled me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAnd, without question, the acting is in a class all by its beautiful self. Winslet won an Emmy award for best lead actress in a limited series; and co-stars Julianne Nicholson, as Mare\u2019s best friend Lori Ross, and Evan Peters, as\u00a0Detective Colin Zabel, won Emmy silverware for their supporting roles.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Easttown-.jpeg\" alt=\"Julianne Nicholson\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"512\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tJulianne Nicholson (Photograph by Michele K. Short\/HBO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOther key parts were played by Jean Smart, as Helen, Mare\u2019s sassy mother, Angourie Rice as daughter Siobhan, and an ensemble that looked as if they were born and bred in Delco. In fact, scores of locals from the main locations played townsfolk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTask, Ingelsby\u2019s latest prestige series for HBO starring Mark Ruffalo, as a quietly assured FBI agent, is set in and around the same fictional geographical Philly universe as\u00a0Mare of Easttown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThere has been a lot of chatter suggesting that, at some point, the two shows might somehow merge. Ruffalo himself, when we bumped into each other a while back at a BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills, offered me this view: \u201cAt some point those two [shows] might run into each other in the future, that\u2019s what they\u2019re saying. It\u2019s not set, nothing\u2019s set.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeantime, Winslet is slowly coming down from the whirlwind of promotion she gamely plied for\u00a0Goodbye June, based on a screenplay by Joe Anders, her son with former husband Sam Mendes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe movie stars Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Toni Collette, Winslet, and the great, one and only, Fisayo Akinade.
