You know, I think the people who are activists feel like it’s more important. We’re angry, but the thing is, we have to channel that anger into non-violent action, and that’s what we’re doing here today,” Jamie Bauer, an activist with Rise and Resist, said.

The protests come as ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and other federal agents continue arresting immigrants who have shown up this week for their routine, mandatory, ICE check-ins inside 26 Federal Plaza.

ICE claims assaults on its officers are up more than 1000%.

“ICE has to get out of New York, ICE has to get out of all the cities, no troops in our cities,” Bauer said.

Another activist — Alvin Eng, also with Rise and Resist — says he’s the proud son of immigrants.

“Immigrants built this country, and what’s going on now, is lawless, it’s immoral, and to have this innocent woman get killed, and then, them trying to cover it up by saying she’s a domestic terrorist, this is just intolerable,” Eng said.

Eng believes ICE’s actions in Minnesota went too far, and said he wanted to be here to remember the 37-year-old victim.

“She’s being slandered and lied about by the government,” Eng said.

NY1 spoke with an immigration attorney who’s been showing up nearly every day since late May when detentions first began inside 26 Federal Plaza.
