Over\u00a040 restaurants will participate in the January 19 event Todos Ponen: Una Noche de Pueblos y Platillos at the Ramova Theatre. The large-scale fundraising event is in response to growing hardship in Latino neighborhoods, as recent ICE activity has led to job loss, fear and reduced access to everyday essentials, including groceries.<\/p>\n

But what\u00a0started off as short-term food relief quickly exposed deeper, systemic challenges for immigrant families navigating crises without adequate support. In 2026, organizers say those challenges have only intensified, with deportations, disrupted income and anxiety making it harder for families to safely shop for food or meet basic needs.<\/p>\n Rather than relying on one-time meal distributions, Todos Ponen focuses on longer-term dignity and choice. Funds raised will provide families with $800 grocery gift certificates that can be used at local Latino-owned markets such as La Chiquita, El G\u00fcero and Jimenez Supermercado. The approach allows households to buy food that fits their needs while also supporting neighborhood businesses. Local nonprofits will discreetly coordinate delivery of the grocery cards to families who may feel unsafe shopping publicly. Organizers estimate the event will raise between $100,000 and $125,000, enough to directly support 125 families across Chicago.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the intensified fear and hardship our Latino families are facing due to ICE activity, the need for sustained support and community is greater than ever,\u201d Davila said in an official statement. \u201cThis event is a reminder that when our city’s chefs and community leaders come together, we can create real, lasting change for those who need it most.”<\/p>\n The January 19 gathering doubles as a showcase of Chicago\u2019s food scene, with tastings from Michelin-recognized chefs and beloved neighborhood institutions alike. Highlights include Rick Bayless serving tacos de puerco en pasilla, Kasama\u2019s Genie Kwon and Tim Flores<\/a> offering a coconut black sesame macaroon and Joe Flamm preparing tortellini in brodo. Drinks will be poured by Casa Humilde Cervecer\u00eda, Marz Community Brewing and Patr\u00f3n Tequila.<\/p>\n
