{"id":502691,"date":"2026-01-09T02:03:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T02:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/502691\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T02:03:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T02:03:10","slug":"what-rebuilding-process-looks-like-for-3-altadena-families-nbc-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/502691\/","title":{"rendered":"What rebuilding process looks like for 3 Altadena families \u2013 NBC Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Altadena communities are trying to restore their lives and homes a year after the Eaton Fire, many families are learning the process is not one size that fits all.<\/p>\n<p>Among over 6,700 structures or units destroyed, 1,170 <a href=\"https:\/\/recovery.lacounty.gov\/rebuilding\/permitting-progress-dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rebuilding permits<\/a> were issued as of Thursday\u00a0while 1,425 properties\u2019 rebuilding plans were approved in the Eaton Fire burn scar area.<\/p>\n<p>NBC Los Angeles has followed the three families to see what their rebuilding journey has produced during a 12-month period.<\/p>\n<p>Ted Koerner: Home fully rebuilt<\/p>\n<p>Ted Koerner\u2019s home on East Loma Alta Drive was the first to get a certificate of occupancy in December 2025, allowing him to move into this fully rebuilt home in the Eaton Fire zone,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo stand in front of a picture window now and see the sun on the ocean and a full sunset \u2013 it\u2019s quiet, and we\u2019re home. It\u2019s very overwhelming,\u201d said Koerner.<\/p>\n<p>The homeowner said his rebuilding process involved \u201ca lot of phone calls\u201d to Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelp, please,\u201d Koerner recalled his conversations with county representatives. \u201cYou can only wait so many days when every second of every minute is just being lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said he fronted over $700,000 out of his retirement fund to rebuild before insurance payout.<\/p>\n<p>Koerner\u2019s advice to other wildfire survivors: Pick up the phone every day. Every day.
