She replaces Ann O\u2019Brien in the role, who will stay on as a member of council.<\/p>\n<p>Hodge Washington, who represents District 8, took office in 2023 as the first Black woman on Phoenix City Council. She is also the first in the role of vice mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Hodge Washington is a lawyer and former Arizona assistant attorney general.
