data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Many of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/president-donald-trump-47\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> close advisers, both inside and outside the White House, have grown increasingly frustrated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/07\/07\/politics\/bondi-epstein-files-client-list-suicide-memo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Attorney General Pam Bondi\u2019s<\/a> handling of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, following days of intense criticism from some of the president\u2019s most devoted supporters.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00y00023b6nzqk2elf6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A recently released Justice Department memo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/07\/07\/politics\/jeffrey-epstein-suicide-client-list-justice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finding no evidence<\/a> that the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender was murdered has become a target of deepening scrutiny from the MAGA-aligned right, leaving many in Trump\u2019s orbit unconvinced that the matter has been adequately addressed, according to multiple people briefed on the situation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9d2c200193b6nfv1nj6ll@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Much of the scrutiny has fallen on Bondi, who was among many in Trump\u2019s orbit who publicly suggested there was more to reveal about Epstein\u2019s death, though a senior administration official said Trump was not acutely focused on her.<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00033b6n10fxj2fk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The official said that Trump has been annoyed but not necessarily with Bondi: \u201cHe\u2019s annoyed that people still care about Jeffrey Epstein.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph target=\"_blank\">attempted to dismiss the controversy<\/a>, bristling at a question during a televised Cabinet meeting and calling renewed interest in Epstein \u201ca desecration\u201d compared to what he said were more pressing concerns like the flooding in Texas.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00053b6n0xi8lyur@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But behind the scenes, annoyance among Trump officials and allies with how the investigation was handled has mounted.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" \u201cThat was him trying to tell his base that it was time to move on,\u201d one prominent Trump ally said of the president\u2019s comments. \u201cWe aren\u2019t ready to move on.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00073b6n7dd22qda@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            One Trump administration official argued Bondi \u201cbungled the case from the start\u201d by overpromising potential bombshell findings. Bondi\u2019s own claim, made during a Fox News interview in February, that she had a so-called Epstein client list on her desk and intended to release it exacerbated the perception that she underdelivered.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00083b6n66l3zbah@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            No such list exists, the Justice Department concluded in the memo released Monday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00093b6nphlyyrzd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended Bondi on Tuesday. \u201cPresident Trump is proud of Attorney General Bondi\u2019s efforts to execute his Make America Safe Again agenda, restore the integrity of the Department of Justice, and bring justice to victims of crime. The continued fixation on sowing division in President Trump\u2019s Cabinet is baseless and unfounded in reality,\u201d she said in a statement to CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000a3b6ny4z2kq67@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Part of the frustration with Bondi stems from how Monday\u2019s report, which was first <a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.axios.com%2F2025%2F07%2F07%2Fjeffrey-epstein-suicide-client-list-trump-administration&amp;data=05%7C02%7CSimone.Pathe%40cnn.com%7C21a7d7eb2b8d46e2c68108ddbe8183db%7C0eb48825e8714459bc72d0ecd68f1f39%7C0%7C0%7C638876185703752041%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=Q7wiziUOIxyzfdwjQNS40ZO61Qmtbccj5Rm9M2FIXG4%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">leaked on Sunday<\/a> during a holiday weekend, was rolled out.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000b3b6npsqn5z5n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt wasn\u2019t the roll out we would have liked,\u201d one senior administration official told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000c3b6n0vulteih@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The DOJ memo contradicted many of the conspiracy theories pulsating on the right surrounding Epstein \u2013 including that he was murdered and that authorities were keeping secret a list of high-profile clients possibly involved in wrongdoing.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000d3b6noayc70o2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Those findings weren\u2019t a surprise to Trump on Monday. FBI Director Kash Patel and Bondi briefed him last Wednesday on the lack of evidence to support those theories, according to two sources familiar with the meeting.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000e3b6nqoxgrts5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            During Tuesday\u2019s Cabinet meeting, Bondi attempted to clarify her February remarks:\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000f3b6nhhw7xf85@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI did an interview on Fox, and it\u2019s been getting a lot of attention because I said I was asked a question about the client list, and my response was, it\u2019s sitting on my desk to be reviewed \u2013 meaning the file along with the JFK, MLK files as well. That\u2019s what I meant by that,\u201d she told reporters.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000g3b6n7m068rbn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Her explanation, though, did little to appease many MAGA voices who have long been fixated on unearthing potential accomplices to Epstein\u2019s many sex crimes against minors. Influential far-right activist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/05\/03\/politics\/laura-loomer-trump-white-house-briefing-room\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Laura Loomer<\/a> \u2013 who met separately in recent months with both Trump and Vice President JD Vance \u2014 continued to call for Bondi\u2019s dismissal over the episode.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000h3b6nkiflz0xu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon dedicated much of his Monday \u201cWar Room\u201d show to the memo, questioning the administration\u2019s dedication to transparency. Bannon later argued to CNN the federal investigation appears to have been mismanaged.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000i3b6n7yfmlnmf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A Trump adviser called the memo\u2019s release a \u201cpolitical nightmare\u201d and suggested it could\u2019ve been published before the holiday weekend when fewer people might see it \u2013 or perhaps even after the 2026 midterm elections.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000j3b6n8w9hknpr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson argued Bondi is \u201ccovering up crimes, very serious crimes by their own description,\u201d on his podcast.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9hmgq001b3b6n5estyt3k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Roseanne Barr took aim at Trump himself.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000k3b6npf0wsd7f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cMr. President- Yes, we still care about Epstein. Read the damn room,\u201d she posted on X.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000m3b6nynu3604r@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The search for explosive deep-state secrets hidden inside the federal Epstein investigation began coming apart weeks into the second Trump administration.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000n3b6ntkihmurd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            By mid-March, as hundreds of FBI agents were ordered to work overnights and weekends to review thousands of pages and hours of video from the investigation, there were no bombshells in the files. It became clear that officials had no reason to change the conclusion reached under Attorney General William Barr, who had himself reviewed some of the materials, that the sex offender had died by suicide, according to people familiar with the matter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000o3b6nlkoy7s0v@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Epstein case has long been the focus of conspiracy theories, fueled by his death inside a federal prison in 2019 while he awaited trial. The financier\u2019s association with prominent and powerful figures, ranging from former President Bill Clinton to Trump, fed suspicions that other high-profile people were involved in his crimes and someone might be covering up their identities.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000p3b6niy9rd6on@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It was amid that swirl of intrigue that officials embarked on their quest to once and for all release documents to answer many of the questions that have grown into a cottage industry on the internet.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000q3b6neukkhqbf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But a major problem soon emerged: Most of the material still being held by investigators could not be released under federal law, which protects the privacy of Epstein victims and people not charged with crimes. FBI and Justice officials realized that releasing thousands of pages blacked out by redactions wouldn\u2019t help resolve the issue on right-wing social media, where Trump allies have fanned conspiracy theories about Epstein.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000r3b6nb396ymtb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The overall goal \u2013 transparency promised by the president \u2013 has been accomplished, a Justice official said. But the slow-rolling fiasco could have been avoided, some officials acknowledge.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000s3b6nal4sdgxc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The first public signs of trouble came in late February when Bondi helped orchestrate a scoop for MAGA social media influencers called to the White House, presenting them with binders of documents.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000t3b6n820da0cg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But those binders contained hundreds of pages that mostly had been public for years.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000u3b6njb7znm7a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The episode landed with a thud among many longtime followers of conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein, and some who had once championed the effort turned on Bondi, accusing her online of withholding damaging information.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000v3b6nxberedmu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Loomer told CNN that a White House adviser urged her and other prominent Trump supporters earlier this year to soften their criticism. She did not identify the adviser. \u201cWe were told to leave her alone,\u201d Loomer said. \u201cBut it\u2019s gotten to a point where it\u2019s unsustainable.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000w3b6n3czunkfo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The lack of substantive revelations in the binders wasn\u2019t only a surprise to the MAGA faithful who lashed out immediately, but also to the attorney general and other Justice and White House officials.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000x3b6njiwi4wu6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Bondi\u2019s embarrassment showed in a sharply worded memo to Patel, who had recently been confirmed and who had played only a minimal role in the White House Epstein file debacle, according to people familiar with the matter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000y3b6ngpwv9t6p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI repeatedly questioned whether this was the full set of documents,\u201d Bondi wrote, adding that she was surprised to later learn that there were thousands of documents held by the FBI\u2019s New York office, which had led the Epstein investigation. She ordered the additional documents produced to her office by 8 a.m. the next day, saying, \u201cI am directing you to conduct an immediate investigation into why my order to the FBI was not followed.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z000z3b6nwe2ufiow@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But Bondi, Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino found themselves under attack online from so-called Epstein truthers. And every time they posted on social media, they were barraged by erstwhile supporters demanding the Epstein files.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00103b6n7org8m18@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Bongino and Patel are aware of the disappointment from the right-wing media stars among whom they were formerly major players, a person familiar with the matter said. \u201cThere\u2019s the world of social media and then there\u2019s the real world,\u201d a person familiar with their thinking said. \u201cUltimately, some people aren\u2019t going to like how it is.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcv9c00z00113b6n3qy2qdow@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            By May, Bongino and Patel had begun trying to manage expectations.
