\tCalifornia tax revenue getting a boost from AI boom \u2014 but for how long?<\/a>

As California becomes more dependent on tax revenue from the tech industry, its stake in the health of the artificial intelligence industry has grown.<\/p>\n

The state is seeing financial\u00a0benefits from the AI boom, a new analysis by the Legislative Analyst\u2019s Office shows. But the boom raises questions: Will it continue to be accompanied by a decline in tech and other jobs? Is it a bubble?<\/p>\n

Tax revenue from stock-option withholding paid by some of the state\u2019s biggest tech companies made up about 10% of all income tax withholding in 2025, estimated Chas Alamo, the principal fiscal and policy analyst with the LAO. Alamo looked at tech companies\u2019 public financial filings and other data through the second quarter of 2025. That figure would be about the same as 2024, and is up from more than 6% just three years ago,\u00a0when he first did the analysis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Months of backlash against efforts to balance the city\u2019s budget with more parking fees has pushed at least three San Diego City Council members to suggest the city pump the brakes.<\/p>\n

First up, Balboa Park:\u00a0Two days in, paid parking at Balboa Park is off to a rocky start.<\/p>\n

The city started to charge for parking Monday and some residents complained about prices, while\u00a0others were downright confused<\/a>. City of San Diego residents are supposed to get steep discounts.<\/p>\n
