SAN DIEGO \u2014 Chuckymania is over in San Diego after only one season. \u00a0San Diego FC General Manager Tyler Heaps announced that Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is not in the team’s plans moving forward<\/p>\n
Lozano is currently still with the team during preseason training but is not training with the main squad, Heaps told media from the club’s headquarters on Friday. \u00a0Heaps said that the team plans to either trade or loan the player to another club, but that decision is not final yet.<\/p>\n
SDFC Head Coach Mikey Varas told the media Friday that Chucky wasn’t a fit when asked about the team’s decision. He did not specify what specifically wasn’t a fit, just that “holistically, it wasn’t a good fit.”<\/p>\n
San Diego FC finished the team’s first season in the MLS with 19 wins, an expansion team record, eventually losing to Vancouver in the Conference Finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The club had announced the signing of the Mexico City native on June 6, \u00a02024, with fanfare to a four-year contract through the end of the 2028 MLS season with two option years. The team hosted a\u00a0community celebration deemed “Chuckymania”<\/a> on June 13 and invited fans to welcome the Mexico City native to San Diego County.\u00a0<\/p>\n After the signing was announced, San Diego FC Owner and Chairman, Sir Mohamed Mansour said, \u201cSigning a player of the international stature of \u2018Chucky\u2019 Lozano is the biggest possible endorsement of our project in San Diego.\u201d<\/p>\n
