The season 2 premiere, which aired Thursday, Jan. 8, revealed that he didn\u2019t survive. Oliver\u2019s death, which took place offscreen, was confirmed when FBI secret agent Bex Henderson (Melissa Roxburgh) was seen mourning her ex\u2019s passing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6GEUJYUIUJDL5H2I6E3S3GPVGE\">Wechsler was listed as a cast member in an NBC press release about season 2, so his character\u2019s death was unexpected. \u201cThe Hunting Party\u201d executive producer JJ Bailey told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/1238024\/the-hunting-party-oliver-dead-lazarus-boss-season-2-premiere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/1238024\/the-hunting-party-oliver-dead-lazarus-boss-season-2-premiere\/\">TVLine <\/a>that the show\u2019s creative team \u201cwrestled\u201d with whether or not Oliver should die. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Hunting Party - Season 1\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C2JRG2V4O5AXTLW66ENKZWZDYI.jpg\"  \/>Nick Wechsler as Oliver Odell in &#8220;The Hunting Party.&#8221;David Astorga\/NBC<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RHFMU5VF2FCQXGNPECAMKE4HDM\">\u201cOne thing that we sort of faced was creatively, it was hard to involve [Oliver] in the field and to find stories that felt like it really serviced what we wanted to do with the character and with Bex,\u201d Bailey explained. His fellow executive producer Jake Coburn also weighed in on the decision. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"O2R2FXQQNBGDFCTLAQHNCQAE2U\">\u201cI would say that I think the character [of Oliver], he was so intricately tied to [Bex\u2019s] past, and at a certain point, we processed a lot of that story and emotion. Roxburgh, who plays Bex, didn\u2019t know Wechsler would be written off the show when they filmed the dramatic season 1 finale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WVAVONRZZ5FUPN6K7DWKC6VGMQ\">\u201c[It was] left on a cliffhanger, so I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, maybe there\u2019s hope that he\u2019s not dead.\u2019 Because the Bex-Odell storyline, I feel like it needed something; it needed closure,\u201d Roxburgh told TVLine. \u201cSo, I was really hoping [he\u2019d live]. But you know what? It\u2019s a great plot twist, I think, that coming into season 2 and finding out that the cliffhanger \u2026 audiences will be more inclined to tune in because I think that they weren\u2019t expecting that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RLP6I3MDVBFHXJEINNDGNOGW2M\">During season 2, Bex reassembles her team to continue hunting the escaped serial killers. The mysterious Eve Lazarus (Kari Matchett), who was a former Pit inmate, is now the team leader. Roxburgh told <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/the-hunting-party-season-2-melissa-roxburgh-oliver-odell-fate-nick-wechsler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/the-hunting-party-season-2-melissa-roxburgh-oliver-odell-fate-nick-wechsler\/\">Collider<\/a> that Bex and her teammates are \u201calways going to be suspicious\u201d of Lazarus, whose backstory remains a mystery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"67DHKCYEWVCSPGBQEXQD3P2NF4\"><b>\u201cThe Hunting Party\u201d airs on NBC Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET.
