\n\tThe cogs in Charlie Brooker<\/a>\u2018s brain are at work on the next installment of Black Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe hit dystopian series is returning for an eighth season. Netflix<\/a> confirmed the news on Friday by releasing a transcript of a conversation with Brooker, in which he beamed<\/a> about the show\u2019s three Golden Globe nominations.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe seventh edition<\/a> of Brooker\u2019s dystopian anthology series immediately topped Netflix charts upon its April 2025 release, accruing 10.6 million views in its first full week on the platform. The six episodes included a sequel<\/a> to what is regarded as one of the most popular episodes in the program\u2019s history: USS Callister.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tThe episodes landed Brooker a nomination for best television limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television, as well as performance nods for stars Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti in episodes Common People<\/a> and Eulogy<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was a pleasant surprise and an honor,\u201d said the British writer-producer about the Globes recognition. \u201cObviously, I don\u2019t experience human emotion, but as much as I can emulate it, I was pleased,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmid Brooker\u2019s analysis on how season seven was crafted and which spine-chilling sci-fi moments still linger in his mind, he also discussed the future of Black Mirror, telling the streamer: \u201cWell, luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that\u00a0Black Mirror\u00a0will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that\u2019s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked about his describing each season as an individual album and what kind of tune the next one will be, Brooker responded: \u201cIt\u2019s a useful thought experiment when approaching a new story. I\u2019ll often think of, \u2018Well, what haven\u2019t we done yet, and what tone am I looking for? \u2026 Where does this track come on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go into?\u2019 We\u2019ll find out. [It\u2019s] very unlikely you\u2019ll ever see a\u00a0Black Mirror\u00a0hoedown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an August, 2025 conversation<\/a> with The Hollywood Reporter, Brooker said he\u2019s got \u201cplenty more Black Mirror stories ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe way that technology is improving, there are new\u00a0Black Mirror-y ideas you can see all the time,\u201d he said. \u201cI was reading the other day about people\u2019s mental delusions being reinforced by large language models and AIs who chat with you, and you can almost immediately see several story ideas start leaping out at you. There\u2019s plenty more horrible oil in the tank, basically.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooker also teased a little about his new, untitled Netflix series<\/a>, which he said is a \u201cprofoundly serious crime thriller\u201d and \u201cvery much not Black Mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s definitely something I\u2019m not saying about it at the moment just yet. I can\u2019t even tell you what it\u2019s called yet, but it\u2019s very much not\u00a0Black Mirror. I can say that. It\u2019s a very, very different thing. The most detective show of all time. It\u2019s a deeply profound and profoundly serious\u00a0<\/a>crime thriller,\u201d he adds, listing The Bridge, The Killing and Knives Out among his favorites of the genre.<\/p>\n
