{"id":505874,"date":"2026-01-10T09:56:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T09:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/505874\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T09:56:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T09:56:31","slug":"ice-ts-n-j-cannabis-dispensary-closes-less-than-a-year-after-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/505874\/","title":{"rendered":"Ice-T&#8217;s N.J. cannabis dispensary closes less than a year after opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DJZPALVEFZF4JBNGI5UNYBZWXE\">A weed dispensary co-owned by rapper Ice-T has closed less than a year after its grand opening in one of New Jersey\u2019s largest cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3PNCHP6ZSBDBLCTAEUBCEDZGUU\">Ice-T \u2014 a star of NBC\u2019s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Law_%26_Order:_Special_Victims_Unit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Law &amp; Order: Special Victims Unit<\/a>&#8221; \u2014 partnered with former Playboy model Charis Burrett to open the shop. The store, called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/marijuana\/2025\/04\/legendary-rapper-and-ex-playboy-model-open-njs-newest-weed-dispensary.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/marijuana\/2025\/04\/legendary-rapper-and-ex-playboy-model-open-njs-newest-weed-dispensary.html\">The Medicine Woman<\/a>, opened in Jersey City in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LPDZ6IFI5BA5JG43QBIL4QO5FM\">The store\u2019s website no longer lists its Jersey City location and Google search results say it has permanently closed. Heady NJ, a local cannabis news site, first reported the closure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2CSXAGB7BRDTNBY7BWSDQNWOOU\">In a statement, the dispensary owners blamed a lack of local government support and mounting costs for the business\u2019 failure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BGKDO5ML5NBERKBBILJBZOJDDQ\">\u201cDespite significant investment, compliance, and readiness to launch, the lack of local oversight and regulatory infrastructure undermined our ability to grow and sustain operations, effectively driving the operation into the ground before it ever even had a real chance to get started,\u201d company officials said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MPYWMV3JCNC5HPJLUMZWM3NIKI\">\u201cAs a New Jersey native, I\u2019m excited for the opportunity legalization offers our community,\u201d the Newark-born Ice-T said in April when the shop opened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"U5LXLDJ5N5CU5LZFAORQCWJRIE\">The shop, located at 660-684 Tonnelle Ave, joined several other dispensaries already open in Jersey City.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Medicine Woman\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/A3KYD7EC4BDNZHNUQAMQ7HMSZ4.jpg\"  \/>Medicine Woman cannabis dispensary business partners, from left, Ice T, Charis Burrett and John Batchelor after their proposal to establish the business was approved at the Jersey City Cannabis Control Board meeting in 2022.Haresh Oudhnarine<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BYP2NP3CHBASJBP7NSQ6EWHQUA\">Other cannabis shops associated with celebrities have also struggled to stay open. In Newark, a celebrity-backed cannabis store, Hashstoria, closed last year. Its backers included members of the Wu-Tang Clan and radio host Charlamagne tha God.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6ZAH6GAJURC2DCPFCNPJ3FHM34\">In some towns, weed dispensaries have had difficulty drawing enough customers to stay open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6QZNIMAM2RGVREKLRSNGPSBAPM\">New Jersey\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/marijuana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/marijuana\/\">cannabis<\/a> law allows municipalities to set restrictions and caps on the number of dispensaries. While an estimated 70% of the state\u2019s municipalities have opted out of allowing weed shops, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/hudson\/2024\/02\/jersey-city-celebrates-status-as-njs-weed-capital-amid-a-pause-to-gauge-how-its-working-out.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/hudson\/2024\/02\/jersey-city-celebrates-status-as-njs-weed-capital-amid-a-pause-to-gauge-how-its-working-out.html\">Jersey City<\/a> is among the cities that allowed unlimited stores.
