That includes the announcement that the company is adding smart home capability to two designer lamps in its Varmblixt collection.

The first thing I saw on walking into Ikea’s CES suite was a shelf with a multicolored assortment of the company’s donut lamp. Before, this lamp was a moody amber color; now, it has an RGB light inside of it that shifts between colors slowly and gently, something an Ikea representative said is a purposeful part of the design.

© Wes Davis / Gizmodo Do not eat the donut lamp. © Wes Davis / Gizmodo

The lamp’s colors aren’t quite as saturated as something you’d get from Govee, but that’s not the worst thing. I’ve always found Govee’s colors to be a little too vibrant, at least for indoor home lighting.

The Varmblixt pendant light only cycles through white color temperatures. © Wes Davis / Gizmodo

The other light on display was a pendant lamp that’s made up of what look like a bunch of hanging, bent fluorescent tubes. They’re not dimmable and aren’t RGB, but instead range across the white light temperature spectrum, similar to Philips Hue’s white ambiance lights. Like the donut lamp, the pendant lamp transitions along its color temperature range gently.

Both of the new smart lamps are Matter-compatible, meaning they should work with any of the major smart home platforms. For those who don’t feel like connecting them, Ikea includes a small, pre-paired Matter-compatible remote with two buttons on it. It can both dim the pendant lamp and change its color temperature, while for the donut lamp, it dims or cycles through 12 colors chosen by artist Sabine Marcelis, who worked with Ikea to design them.

Ikea says in its press release that it’s collaborating with Marcelis on a new collection that it plans to launch in 2027, although it’s not clear whether that will include smart home devices. The new Matter-compatible Varmblixt lamps will be available starting in April; the donut lamp will be $99.99, and the pendant lamp $149.99.

Gizmodo is on the ground in Las Vegas all week bringing you everything you need to know about the tech unveiled at CES 2026.
