(KPRC-TV)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He noted that dozens of cars are known to be resting at the bottom of these waterways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/2014\/05\/20\/local-2-goes-into-houston-bayous-to-find-submerged-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/2014\/05\/20\/local-2-goes-into-houston-bayous-to-find-submerged-vehicles\/\">In 2014, 2 Investigates broke the news that Tim Miller and his team had mapped, with sonar devices, the locations of 127 vehicles in Houston\u2019s bayous.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The City of Houston, in partnership with other agencies, later approved a pilot program to remove about 20 of the sunken vehicles. No bodies were found in those vehicles.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare and Mayor John Whitmire both say there is no evidence of a serial killer behind the recent discoveries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Miller agrees, explaining that the bodies found are in different locations and involve different types of people.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Miller believes there are still cars underwater that could contain bodies. He is willing to remap the locations but notes that funding remains a major obstacle to removing the vehicles and potentially recovering remains.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019d be more than willing to go ahead and sew it out again and compare what we have now to what we had back then if more cars had been put in there and I anticipate that answer is going to be Yes,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>City of Houston Response:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cCurrently, there is not an initiative similar to the 2016 program. The Houston Police Department\u2019s Dive Team responds immediately to all scenes where patrol officers report a submerged vehicle. The scene is assessed, and the vehicle is addressed at that time. Additionally, the Dive Team surveys Houston\u2019s major bayous at regular intervals throughout the year. When a vehicle or other target is identified for further investigation, the Dive Team conducts a more thorough assessment of that scene.
