You have probably noticed that the sports world is filled with hot takes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as something that’s true right now may not hold up in a couple months or a year. That said, some observations are outright puzzling<\/a>, and LeSean McCoy has come up with his fair share when discussing the Jacksonville Jaguars. The most baffling one has to do with Trevor Lawrence.<\/p>\n

While Lawrence has been inconsistent or struggled at times<\/a>, he’s without a doubt the best player on the Jags roster. Yet, McCoy has a hard time acknowledging it even when everyone agrees that he is. And just before the game, Shady decided to double down on his head-scratching criticism of No. 16. <\/p>\n

LeSean McCoy argues the Jaguars will lose because of Trevor Lawrence<\/p>\n

LeSean McCoy argued on the Speakeasy Podcast that Lawrence has been inconsistent throughout his career, and if the Jaguars lose against Buffalo, it will be because of him<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Has there been moments in Trevor Lawrence’s career we like, ‘Man, he looks bad?’ And there’s moments in Trevor Lawrence’s career like, man, ‘He looks really, really good.’ Of course, that’s called inconsistent,” McCoy argued. “Yes. All right. So when I speak about him, I speak about him like an inconsistent quarterback, so now he’s playing well, and I watched Hyper Bear hyping him up. Okay, pom pom, Bear, put the pom poms on.”<\/p>\n

McCoy continued, “When we get to this game, it’s the Buffalo Bills. They’re not a great defense. Yeah, they’re not. But it’s playoff football. If he looks inconsistent like he does before, how are we not going to talk about that? Because it’s the playoffs?… I just know this. If they have a downfall, I think it’s because of him, because a lot of times when they have downfalls, they’d be his fault.”<\/p>\n

In his defense, McCoy is right when he says Lawrence should be scrutinized if he struggles, but saying that the Jags haven’t been able to win games in the past or that they’ll collapse because of him is a stretch. <\/p>\n

Later in the exchange, McCoy says that teammate Travis Etienne is more valuable than Lawrence, but that argument collapses under the slightest bit of scrutiny. <\/p>\n

Etienne had a fine but not elite season for the Jaguars. He toted the rock 260 times for 1,107 yards with seven touchdowns and hauled in 36 catches for 292 yards with six touchdowns. However, you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who legitimately thinks he was a top-5 or 10 running back in 2025. <\/p>\n

Again, Etienne was fine but was far from the Jaguars’ offensive MVP, while Lawrence finished the year strong<\/a>, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,600 yards with 15 touchdowns and just one interception the last six games.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time the former NFL running back takes shot at Lawrence<\/a>, or that Travis Etienne is Jacksonville’s best player<\/a>. And he was wrong at that time as well. The problem is that he’s the kind of talking head who prefers to double down on a bad take rather than accept that he was wrong. <\/p>\n

Not even when McCoy encountered pushback from his co-hosts was he willing to concede that Lawrence is any good. Then again, that doesn’t truly matter.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars have gone as far as it has this season in part because of the fifth-year quarterback.
