If your weekend plans involve crisscrossing NYC, this might be the moment to stay local, grab a coffee, and breathe. The MTA has announced a full slate of service changes due to ongoing repair work, rerouting nearly every subway line in one way or another.<\/p>\n
The good news? A few brave trains are staying the course.
The rest? Expect reroutes, skipped stops, and outright suspensions.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n
These are the only lines with no major service changes this weekend:<\/p>\n
Subway: F, M, Q, 1, and 6<\/p>\n
Shuttles: Franklin Ave & Rockaway Park<\/p>\n
If your travels rely on those lines\u2014you\u2019re golden. For everyone else, here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/p>\n
Major Weekend Service Changes: Line by Line<\/p>\n
A & C Trains: Reroutes + Local Service<\/p>\n
A Train: From Friday 11:45 pm to Monday 5 am, Queens-bound A trains will run on the F line between Jay St-MetroTech and West 4th St.<\/p>\n
Weekend local stops: Ralph, Rockaway, Liberty, Van Siclen, and Shepherd Aves<\/p>\n
Downtown A trains run local at 50th and 23rd Streets<\/p>\n
C Train: Uptown trains skip Spring, 23rd, and 50th. Downtown C trains follow the F line from West 4th to Jay St.
No C train service overnight all weekend<\/p>\n
E & G Trains: Minimal Movement<\/p>\n
E Train: Skipping Spring St and 23rd St all weekend<\/p>\n
G Train: Severely reduced\u2014only running between Court Sq-23rd and Bedford-Nostrand Aves
No G service south of Bedford-Nostrand to Church Ave<\/p>\n
L & J Trains: Brooklyn and Queens, Beware<\/p>\n

D Train: From Sat 3:45 am to Sun 10 pm, Coney Island-bound D trains run via the N line between 36th St and Stillwell Ave<\/p>\n
N Train: Manhattan-bound trains skip Astoria stops (30th Ave, Broadway, 36th Ave, 39th Ave)<\/p>\n
2, 3, 4, 5 Trains: Headaches Across Boroughs<\/p>\n
2 Train: No service between Chambers St and Flatbush Ave<\/p>\n
3 Train: Fully suspended all weekend<\/p>\n
4 Train: Covers for the 3 in Brooklyn. In the Bronx, expect skipped stops (including 161st St-Yankee Stadium)<\/p>\n
5 Train: Some reroutes to the 6 line at 138th St<\/p>\n
7 Train: Queens Express Skips<\/p>\n
From Friday night to Monday at 3 am, Queens-bound 7 trains skip 82nd, 90th, 103rd, and 111th Streets<\/p>\n
Why All the Construction?<\/p>\n
The MTA is using the weekend to perform critical upgrades\u2014replacing nearly 40-year-old track switches and installing the CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system to improve train frequency and cut back on mid-week meltdowns.<\/p>\n
So yes, it\u2019s messy now\u2014but it\u2019s meant to prevent worse later.<\/p>\n
