It also mirrors the White House&#8217;s stance on the effects of tariffs, which might not be a position investors want to take.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Stephen Miran, chairman of Trump&#8217;s Council of Economic Advisers, told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/squawk-box-us\/?__source=OTS%7Cfinance%7Cinline%7Cstory%7C&amp;par=OTS&amp;doc=108169315\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Squawk Box<\/a>&#8221; that the odds of tariffs leading to higher prices is a &#8220;rare event&#8221; like &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/08\/tariff-prices-trump-miran-meteor.html?__source=OTS%7Cfinance%7Cinline%7Cstory%7C&amp;par=OTS&amp;doc=108169315\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pandemics or, or meteors or whatever<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t mean to be dismissive,&#8221; Miran clarified. &#8220;All I mean to say is that prediction is difficult, and we should always speak in terms of odds and possibilities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the record, there&#8217;s a 0.004% chance of an asteroid that will fly near Earth in 2023 striking our planet, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/science\/space\/asteroid-hit-earth-why-chances-keep-changing-rcna192723\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What you need to know today<\/p>\n<p><strong>New tariffs on copper and pharmaceuticals. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/08\/trump-tariffs-copper-trade.html?__source=OTS%7Cfinance%7Cinline%7Cstory%7C&amp;par=OTS&amp;doc=108169315\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Copper imports will attract a 50% duty<\/a> while that of pharmaceuticals will be subject to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/08\/trump-threatens-pharmaceutical-tariffs-200.html?__source=OTS%7Cfinance%7Cinline%7Cstory%7C&amp;par=OTS&amp;doc=108169315\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tariffs as high as 200%<\/a>, Trump said Tuesday.
