This particular variation lasts just minutes and happens only twice a year.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s your guide to catching it:<\/p>\n<p>What exactly is Manhattanhenge?<\/p>\n<p>Manhattanhenge occurs when the sun aligns with the city\u2019s east\u2013west streets, thanks to the grid being tilted about 30 degrees off true east-west. Most people know the sunset version that hits in late spring and midsummer\u2014but the same magic happens at sunrise in winter and that\u2019s what\u2019s rolling through this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>What time should you go?<\/p>\n<p>Set those alarms. Reverse Manhattanhenge appears on Sunday, January 11, and Monday, January 12, at around 7:15am both mornings. The alignment only lasts a couple of minutes and the weather is always the wildcard. Early forecasts suggest clouds on Sunday and clearer skies on Monday, so if you\u2019re choosing just one morning, Monday may be your best bet.<\/p>\n<p>Where\u2019s the best place to catch it?<\/p>\n<p>You want a major Manhattan cross street with a clean view toward the horizon. These are the classic go-to spots:<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>57th Street<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>42nd Street<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>34th Street<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>23rd Street<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>14th Street<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Tudor City Overpass<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Hunter\u2019s Point South Park in Long Island City\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the sunrise version, views generally improve the farther west you go. While they\u2019re often more crowded, 34th and 42nd Streets get bonus points for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/attractions\/empire-state-building-manhattan-ny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Empire State<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/attractions\/chrysler-building-manhattan-ny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chrysler Building<\/a> cameos.<\/p>\n<p>How long does it last?<\/p>\n<p>Blink and you\u2019ll miss it.
