{"id":507285,"date":"2026-01-11T00:02:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T00:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/507285\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T00:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T00:02:14","slug":"exclusive-cop-summit-seeks-pro-police-reckoning-at-ballot-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/507285\/","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | Cop summit seeks pro-police &#8216;reckoning&#8217; at ballot box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s a red alert.<\/p>\n<p>Police officials from across the state are holding an emergency summit putting politicians on notice \u2014 either back the Blue or get voted out of office \u2014 in the wake of the election of socialist <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/16\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-spews-baffling-new-apology-for-calling-nypd-racist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Mamdani<\/a>, who once called the NYPD \u201cwicked and corrupt,\u201d The Post has learned. <\/p>\n<p>About 300 law enforcement officers are expected to converge at Russo\u2019s on the Bay in Howard Beach on Jan. 22 for the newly formed New York Public Safety Alliance to \u201ccoordinate messaging, legislative strategy and public engagement,\u201d according to a letter sent to 180 agencies in the state. <\/p>\n<p>Flyer for the Public Safety Alliance \u2014 a round table \u2014 to \u201censure our voices and our votes count!\u201d Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York City\u2019s newly elected administration has signaled its intention to pursue significant shifts in public safety policy, changes that many in law enforcement believe could have serious consequences for our safety and the well-being of the public we serve,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n<p>The new alliance was created by the Detectives\u2019 Endowment Association and will bring officers from agencies around the state together to have a unified voice, DEA President Scott Munro said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery police officer and peace officer organization is invited,\u201d Munro said. \u201cThis is our day to set the agenda to protect those who serve and those we serve. Politicians are not invited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For city officers, the conference\u2019s agenda will include changing bail reform and taking on the city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/19\/nycs-chokehold-ban-back-on-the-books-after-court-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diaphragm bill<\/a>, which cops have said makes it more difficult to make an arrest.<\/p>\n<p>There has been controversy about a new department Mayor Zohran Mamdani wants to create to send mental health workers instead of police officers on some 911 calls.  AP<\/p>\n<p>Also on the agenda is influencing the appointment of<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/12\/us-news\/new-yorks-parole-board-stacked-with-lefty-cronies-earning-190k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> parole board members<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/08\/us-news\/woke-nyc-judges-refuse-to-set-bail-or-pretrial-detention-for-dangerous-perps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criminal court judges<\/a>, and improving <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/08\/us-news\/nypd-detectives-retiring-in-droves-sparks-fears-of-nyc-chaotic-crime-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police officer retention<\/a>, Munro said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoliticians have to know that thousands of law enforcement officers and their families are standing together on this,\u201d Munro said. \u201cIf you\u2019re a Suffolk County sheriff\u2019s deputy or you\u2019re protecting a park or you\u2019re a court or probation officer, your voice will be heard. AP<\/p>\n<p>Louis\u00a0Civello, president of the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, called the summit \u201chistoric\u201d and intended to send a message to elected officials that \u201cwe will not sit idle while public safety is jeopardized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are united and ready to engage the public to ensure a much-needed reckoning occurs at the ballot box this November,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will vote, we will campaign, we will use every tool at our disposal in order to elect candidates that will prioritize the safety of the public and protect the lives of our brave law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers have been critical of city and state laws that led to a chokehold ban and bail reform among others. Stephen Yang<\/p>\n<p>Correction Officers\u2019 Benevolent Association President Benny Boscio said he was \u201cproud\u201d to be part of the fledgling alliance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the sweeping public safety changes that are anticipated under this new New York City mayoral administration and many policy makers across New York State, it is imperative that our collective voices are heard and our common goals are achieved,\u201d Boscio said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter what shield we wear, we all put ourselves in harm\u2019s way every day to maintain public safety and we all face many of the same challenges from staffing shortages to worsening working conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While running for mayor, Mamdani apologized for making the harsh comments about cops. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>During his 2020 Assembly run, Mamdani called the NYPD \u201cracist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety\u201d\u00a0and a \u201cwicked and corrupt\u201d\u00a0agency. <\/p>\n<p>He toned down his rhetoric when he ran for mayor, apologizing for the language he used.<\/p>\n<p>But Mamdani was criticized this week for his slow response to a pair of fatal police-involved shootings.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the old posts, Mamdani called the NYPD \u201cracist, anti-queer &amp; a major threat to public safety.\u201d ZohranKMamdani\/X<\/p>\n<p>The shootings happened hours apart on Thursday and Mamdani was quickly briefed about them by Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch but didn\u2019t release a statement until 16 hours later, insiders said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/09\/us-news\/mamdanis-tardy-response-to-two-nypd-shootings-draws-blowback-including-a-miffed-commish-tisch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">And the statement stoked anger<\/a> because it appeared to imply wrongdoing by police by stressing an \u201cinternal investigation\u201d when it is policy for the NYPD\u2019s force investigation division to probe all shootings where cops kill members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know many are eager for answers,\u201d he wrote on X. \u201cThe NYPD is conducting an internal investigation \u2014\u00a0I will work with Commissioner Tisch to ensure this is as thorough and swift as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Critics have bashed Mamdani\u2019s scheme to create a Department of Community Safety and send civilian mental health professionals instead of cops to respond to some emergency calls.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear if City Council will approve creation of the agency, which has a price tag of about $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>President of the National Association of Police Organizations Mick McHale plans to address the negative portrayal of officers by elected officials at the roundtable, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing once again that law enforcement is being demonized,\u201d said McHale. \u201c We cannot have one more law enforcement officer sacrificed anywhere because of the false narrative being spewed by members of the elected party in New York and nationally.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s a red alert.
