BLAKELY \u2014 Early County High School retired Makayla Timpson\u2019s number 21 jersey Friday night, honoring the former Lady Bobcat who went on to star at Florida State University and in the WNBA.<\/p>\n
Timpson was a standout player during her high school career at Early County. She continued her success at Florida State, where she became the all-time leader in double-doubles and career rebounds.<\/p>\n
The Indiana Fever drafted Timpson in the 2025 WNBA draft. As a rookie, she helped the team reach the semifinals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, some of the stuff that they were saying, I can\u2019t remember, but I mean, it\u2019s incredible,\u201d Timpson said. \u201cYou know, to know that I had a triple-double one game, I forgot about that, but it\u2019s been great.\u201d<\/p>\n
Timpson said she was grateful for the recognition from her hometown community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means a lot. You know, I\u2019m really grateful for the opportunity,\u201d she said. \u201cJust grateful to be here, you know, just to be back and the community that just loves me so much. Just to be able to be an honor and a legend here is incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The city also honored Timpson with a key to the city and designated January 9, 2026 as Makayla Timpson Day.<\/p>\n
Timpson and her family will be featured on an upcoming episode of \u201cDialogue with Karla Heath-Sands\u201d later this month.<\/p>\n
