SAN ANTONIO – Nationwide, people are holding protests. At home, more of the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cLove yourself and the people across the world,\u201d said a protest speaker.<\/p>\n
But protesters say what happened this week was anything but that. \u201cThat\u2019s not what our country or any country should be,\u201d said Jason Proestor.<\/p>\n
On Friday, new footage was released of Rennee Good\u2019s shooting. Good was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis after she attempted to drive away from the scene. There is a national debate over whether the agent shot her in self-defense as she drove toward him.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn innocent American should not die because we have immigration enforcement out on the streets,\u201d said Jason Gossard.<\/p>\n
Some protesters also had issues with the capture of Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, last weekend. Protesters I spoke to want the U.S. not to get involved in foreign countries\u2019 politics.<\/p>\n
Eventually, the protest moved from the steps of the Municipal Plaza, where it started, and onto downtown streets. That is where we found a family protesting while pushing two kids in a stroller.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey even got their \u2018I already know more than the president\u2019 shirts on,\u201d said Kevin Randolph, a protester.<\/p>\n
There were also a few counter-protesters, including one who did not want to share his name.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think people protesting ICE are misled. I think there is a lot of information out there that they don\u2019t see,\u201d said anonymous.<\/p>\n
He also shared his view on Good\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Rennee Good her death was very unfortunate. I think she was out there to do bad, and something bad happened to her. I pray for her kids. I\u2019m not happy that she\u2019s dead,\u201d said the anonymous protestor<\/p>\n
One counter-protester arrived with what appeared to be a rifle, only to be followed closely by police before leaving the area.<\/p>\n
The protest was organized by local activist groups including the Party for Socialism and Liberation San Antonio and 50501 San Antonio, the group behind the No Kings Day protest held last year. Members told me that no matter what the turnout was today, they are just happy to help people have their voices heard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SAN ANTONIO – Nationwide, people are holding protests.
