<\/p>\n NACOGDOCHES, Tx.\u00a0\u2013 The women’s basketball team\u00a0battled through several scoring shifts\u00a0on Saturday afternoon, with a big third-quarter push to get back into the game before falling 87\u201367 to Stephen F. Austin.<\/p>\n Stephen F. Austin (11\u20135, 5\u20132 SLC) opened the game with early outside shooting, knocking down two threes in the first five minutes. HCU responded with points in the paint, with Kamryn McLaurin<\/a> and Grace Booth<\/a> each scoring inside to keep the Huskies close. SFA finished the quarter on an 8\u20132 run to take the early momentum.<\/p>\n The Huskies (4-10, 2-5 SLC) traded possessions defensively through the start of the second, highlighted by rebounds from Jordan Jackson<\/a> and Hannah Fields<\/a>, but SFA continued to create separation from the perimeter. HCU added points from McLaurin and Booth, but SFA’s third three of the half widened the gap. HCU entered halftime\u00a031\u201318, with 14 of its first-half points coming in the paint.\u00a0<\/p>\n HCU delivered its strongest frame of the afternoon with 31 points while shooting 63.2 percent in the third quarter. Jackson opened with a three, and McLaurin followed with back-to-back scores at the rim. Fields added a pair of drives and a mid-range jumper, while Madison Hurta<\/a> and Tove Caesar<\/a> knocked down shots to extend the run. Midway through, HCU used an 11\u20132 stretch to cut the deficit to single digits. The Huskies outscored SFA 31\u201328 in the quarter, trimming the margin heading into the fourth.\u00a0<\/p>\n SFA regained its rhythm in the last quarter, connecting on multiple perimeter shots in the opening minutes to build back its lead. HCU continued to score inside, including baskets from Booth and Fields, while McLaurin added free throws to reach 11 points on the day. The Huskies closed the game with stops in the final minutes but were unable to overcome SFA’s fourth-quarter shooting.<\/p>\n McLaurin led Houston Christian with 11 points and six rebounds, while Booth, Jackson, and Fields each added nine points. Hurta and Caesar scored seven apiece, and the Huskies totaled 40 rebounds and 36 points in the paint.
