{"id":508347,"date":"2026-01-11T11:01:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T11:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/508347\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T11:01:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T11:01:11","slug":"oregon-warns-of-possible-measles-exposure-at-two-linn-county-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/508347\/","title":{"rendered":"Oregon warns of possible measles exposure at two Linn County hospitals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3S2377OGL5ESND5FFG2AT6R7GQ\">People who visited two hospitals in Linn County during specific times this week may have been exposed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/06\/oregon-confirms-first-measles-case-of-2025-linked-to-international-travel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/06\/oregon-confirms-first-measles-case-of-2025-linked-to-international-travel.html\">measles<\/a>, a highly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2019\/10\/measles-makes-your-body-forget-how-to-fight-other-diseases.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2019\/10\/measles-makes-your-body-forget-how-to-fight-other-diseases.html\">infectious virus<\/a> that spreads through the air and in rare cases can be fatal, Oregon officials said Saturday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IFOELF33PZDLHIFAKSL6HNJU3Q\">The two people with Oregon\u2019s first confirmed measles cases in 2026 developed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2019\/10\/measles-or-flu-know-the-symptoms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2019\/10\/measles-or-flu-know-the-symptoms.html\">symptoms<\/a> \u2014 a rash, fever, cough and runny nose \u2014 on Jan. 5. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4S2PAWGN75DPJMRJKMOADR7BOE\">The measles virus can linger for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area. The Oregon Health Authority said that people who visited one of two hospitals Jan. 6 or Jan. 7 could have been exposed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7FQZDSJG6NBG5KNCHVVLE6Z4K4\">People could have been exposed to measles if they were at:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"article__unordered-list\">\n<li id=\"CLGYDNMOXVA7TML446UUQPLU6Y\">The Lebanon Community Hospital Emergency Department between 8:53 p.m. on Jan. 6 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 7<\/li>\n<li id=\"WITNM2ETFFD5VAR4A33NT4YCA4\">The Albany General Hospital Emergency Department between 4:59 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Jan. 7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3HQI4QB5SVB7NAQKQA6V4RZQJM\">Anyone who was at either of those hospitals during those times should immediately tell their doctor they may have been exposed to the measles virus, the health authority warned. Their doctor will then be able to determine whether they are immune to the virus based on their vaccination record and other factors. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KSPDMSID3BGUBHIHUEUE4DIGZE\">Measles symptoms usually appear seven to 21 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed by a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body, the health authority said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6CNW7SEOZ5C77N5XPE5X7AV5LI\">Most people infected with measles survive without complications. But the disease is nonetheless dangerous and can cause brain swelling and even death. The disease is particularly dangerous for infants and people with weakened immune symptoms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GOUB3OJ5QRDANMRKGUXJPUUKBE\">Measles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/04\/there-are-800-measles-cases-in-the-us-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-outbreaks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/04\/there-are-800-measles-cases-in-the-us-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-outbreaks.html\">has been on the rise nationally<\/a>, with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recording the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/07\/measles-cases-in-the-us-reach-highest-levels-in-33-years-cdc-reports.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/07\/measles-cases-in-the-us-reach-highest-levels-in-33-years-cdc-reports.html\">worst year for measles spread<\/a> in more than three decades just halfway through 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ABTYCRID2VHO5IQAXS2QOPA5YM\">The agency reported 2,144 confirmed cases nationwide by the end of the year, including three that were fatal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GOSPBTJE7FAKTJ6Q7EJOLFH3EQ\">Oregon had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/06\/oregon-confirms-first-measles-case-of-2025-linked-to-international-travel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/health\/2025\/06\/oregon-confirms-first-measles-case-of-2025-linked-to-international-travel.html\">just one confirmed measles case<\/a> last year, according to CDC data.
