{"id":508899,"date":"2026-01-11T16:41:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/508899\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T16:41:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:41:12","slug":"federal-judge-blocks-nyc-mayor-zohran-mamdani-property-sale-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/508899\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal judge blocks NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani property sale intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Serhant Real Estate\u2019s Ravi Kantha says the luxury housing market is on a positive track on \u2018Maria Bartiromo\u2019s Wall Street.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge blocked New York City Mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/zohran-mamdani\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a>&#8216;s effort to intervene in the sale of thousands of rent-stabilized rental properties on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani&#8217;s administration had sought to slow the sale of the properties after tenants complained that the seller, Pinnacle Group, had poorly maintained the properties and were concerned that the prospective buyer, Summit Properties USA, would have similar issues.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani&#8217;s administration attempted to intervene on the basis of being a creditor to Pinnacle. The company owes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/northeast\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the city<\/a> over $12 million in unpaid fines, according to Gothamist.<\/p>\n<p>Bankruptcy Judge David Jones rejected Mamdani&#8217;s effort, however, setting back the new mayor&#8217;s first foray into NYC&#8217;s housing market.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mamdani-official-cea-weaver-says-she-regrets-some-her-past-statements-after-controversial-posts-resurface\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MAMDANI OFFICIAL CEA WEAVER SAYS SHE REGRETS \u2018SOME\u2019 OF HER PAST STATEMENTS AFTER CONTROVERSIAL POSTS RESURFACE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/zohran-mamdani-nyc-press.jpg\" alt=\"New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani campaigns in New York City\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani vowed to revamp housing in New York City. (REUTERS\/Jeenah Moon \/ Reuters)<\/p>\n<p>Jones could approve the sale to Summit as soon as this Thursday, but Mamdani&#8217;s administration says they are still looking at options.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to fight to ensure any owner of this portfolio makes necessary repairs to bring the buildings up to code and respects the rent stabilization regulations,&#8221; Leila Bozorg, the city\u2019s deputy mayor for housing, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The court defeat comes on the heels of another controversy that bruised Mamdani&#8217;s housing agenda, namely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/nyc-dem-reveals-city-council-rejected-cea-weaver-now-mamdanis-handing-her-power-without-confirmation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his hiring of Cea Weaver<\/a> to lead the Mayor&#8217;s Office to Protect Tenants. (Spencer Platt\/Getty Images \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Amid the controversy over her comments, Weaver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mamdani-official-cea-weaver-says-she-regrets-some-her-past-statements-after-controversial-posts-resurface\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said she regretted &#8220;some&#8221;<\/a> of her past comments. While she did not specify which statements she regrets, Weaver said she aims to tackle &#8220;racial inequalities&#8221; while serving New Yorkers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But, you know, I do think my decades of experience fighting for more affordable housing sort of stands on its own,&#8221; Weaver said. &#8220;I\u2019m proud to be in this role fighting for stronger tenants\u2019 rights.
