href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/01\/04\/trump-on-return-trip-to-washington-predicts-demise-of-cuba-warns-colombia-threatens-greenland-00710410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> that Greenland is \u201ccovered with Russian and Chinese ships\u201d and argued that the U.S. must take control of the island for national security reasons \u2014 rhetoric that has intensified in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Norway\u2019s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that there was \u201cvery little\u201d Russian or Chinese activity near Greenland, despite ongoing Russian submarine movements closer to Norway itself.<\/p>\n<p>Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, meanwhile, said at an annual security conference in northern Sweden that Stockholm was \u201chighly critical\u201d of what the Trump administration was doing and had done in Venezuela, in regards to international law.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Ulf-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7743732\"  \/>Swedish Prime the rhetoric that is being expressed against Greenland and Denmark,\u201d Kristersson added, explaining that the rules-based international order is under greater strain than it has been in decades.<\/p>\n<p>Kristersson said the U.S. should recognize Denmark\u2019s long-standing role as a loyal ally, instead of agitating about Greenland. \u201cOn the contrary, the United States should thank Denmark,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders of all five parties in Greenland\u2019s parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/we-dont-want-to-be-americans-greenlands-political-parties-hit-back-us-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reiterated<\/a> that stance late Friday, saying in a joint statement: \u201cWe do not want to be Americans, we do not want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Trump has
