Chicago\u00a0Mayor Brandon Johnson vowed <\/a>Tuesday that his city \u201cwill not ever cooperate with ICE\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, again, it\u2019s unconscionable at a time in which so many working people and poor people need government to show up for them, that this administration, the Trump administration, has caused so much consternation and division,\u201d Johnson said Tuesday during a press conference.<\/p>\n

Johnson was responding<\/a> to a question about whether the city would \u201cset up local police perimeters around schools to shield students from federal agents without warrants.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, we are welcoming city ordinance,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cOur local police department<\/a> will not ever cooperate with ICE, whatever their constitutional authority is. That is obviously relegated to the Trump administration. All of our sister agencies, city departments have been thoroughly briefed by a corporate counsel, and I\u2019ll pass it over to her in a second about what they can and cannot do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson has been vocal about his criticism of ICE.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last month, he urged House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to \u201cspeak up\u201d regarding ICE\u2019s immigration enforcement\u00a0that the mayor characterized as \u201cterrorism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johnson has also said that\u00a0Chicagoans should \u201crise up\u201d against ICE.<\/p>\n

The City of Chicago<\/a> has allowed in\u00a0over 51,000<\/a>\u00a0illegal immigrants from the southern border since August 31, 2022.<\/p>\n

Last week, Trump \u201cborder czar\u201d Tom Homan discussed attacks on ICE agents during an appearance on \u201cThe Will Cain Show\u201d where he also criticized a new app called ICEBlock that is reportedly being\u00a0used to track ICE agents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAssault against ICE is up over 500%,\u201d Homan said. \u201cNow you\u2019ve got an app that\u2019s going to tell where ICE operations are going to. It\u2019s only a matter of time before ICE agents are ambushed by some nut, like what happened in L.A., throwing them out a cocktail, throwing bricks at these officers. This is just disgusting at every level.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fox News Digital\u00a0reached out to ICE for comment.<\/p>\n

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital, \u201cDemocrat politicians are desperate to defend violent criminal illegal aliens over American citizens. It\u2019s wrong. And it\u2019s why the American people rejected the Democrats in November and sent President Trump back to the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n
