It\u2019s been two months since Benson Boone<\/a> unveiled his song \u201cMystical Magical\u201d \u2014 a quirky pop tune that went viral, in part, for lyrics that included the phrase \u201cmoonbeam ice cream.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMystical Magical\u201d marked the second single from his second album, \u201cAmerican Heart,\u201d providing another promising teaser of Boone\u2019s eclectic style \u2014 on YouTube, the official lyric video for the song already has 16 million views.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Moonbeam ice cream isn\u2019t limited to just \u201cMystical Magical,\u201d though. <\/p>\n

Boone officially released \u201cAmerican Heart\u201d on June 20, and along with it, a music video for the new song \u201cMr. Electric Blue\u201d that at one point shows the singer working in a pink ice cream truck with Moonbeam Ice Cream written across.<\/p>\n

So far, the reviews for \u201cAmerican Heart\u201d are mixed, though just about all of the reviewers seem to agree that coming up with a headline that plays on Boone\u2019s affinity for flips is the way to go: US Weekly<\/a> writes that Boone \u201csticks the landing<\/a>\u201d with the album, while Rolling Stone<\/a> says Boone \u201ccan\u2019t land the backflip<\/a>.” <\/p>\n

New Musical Express, meanwhile, writes that the album is \u201ca front flip to the middle of the road<\/a>.\u201c <\/p>\n

No matter where critics or listeners stand, the enigma that is moonbeam ice cream seems to be bringing people together. And now that Boone\u2019s new album has dropped, it looks like fans could maybe get a literal taste of the mystery flavor in the near future. <\/p>\n

Benson Boone buys an ice cream van, pokes fun at moonbeam ice cream<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay the joke has gone too far. Guess what I just bought,\u201d Boone shared in a TikTok video several days before his album release.<\/p>\n

As the chorus to \u201cMystical Magical\u201d plays on the video, Boone shifts his camera to the pink and orange ice cream truck that appears in the \u201cMr. Electric Blue\u201d music video. <\/p>\n

The \u201cBeautiful Things\u201d singer confirmed during a recent appearance on Scott Mills\u2019 “The Breakfast Show<\/a>” that he did in fact purchase the ice cream truck that is currently in Utah. <\/p>\n

When Mills asked Boone what he plans to do with it, the singer\u2019s response was short and to the point: \u201cdrive it around.\u201d <\/p>\n

Moonbeam ice cream immediately comes into play during the \u201cMr. Electric Blue\u201d music video, a self-deprecating release that transforms just about every insult and criticism that has been hurled Boone\u2019s way in his short career into a hilarious storyline. <\/p>\n

\u201cIs everything all right?\u201d Boone says to his agent as he steps into Industry Plant Records wearing a T-shirt that says \u201cOne hit wonder.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you not been on the internet?\u201d the agent responds. \u201cEverything\u2019s terrible, Benson! We put all of our money in Moonbeam ice cream and a backflip, and it\u2019s gone absolutely horrible. We need something new, we need a new gimmick. Maybe good songwriting?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I can\u2019t do that,\u201d a deflated Boone says. <\/p>\n

Boone\u2019s agent then reveals that the singer owes the label $10 million \u2014 which he must come up with in a week. <\/p>\n

Throughout the video, the singer takes on a series of odd jobs to try to come up with the money, including driving an ice cream truck. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd here\u2019s your Moonbeam ice cream, miss,\u201d he says to a girl at the front of the line.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, you\u2019re that guy who sings \u2018Beautiful Things,\u2019\u201d she says. <\/p>\n

\u201cI sure am, thank you very much,\u201d Boone responds sweetly, only to quickly become upset and devour the girl\u2019s ice cream cone when she tells him that his music is \u201cterrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The music video, which was filmed in Utah, already has more than 1 million views on YouTube. <\/p>\n

What is moonbeam ice cream, anyway? <\/p>\n

Boone recently opened up about the inspiration behind the moonbeam ice cream lyric \u2014 or rather how the lyric stemmed from a lack of inspiration. <\/p>\n

In an interview on \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>,\u201d Boone said he and his songwriting partner, Jack LaFrantz \u2014 who plays the agent in the \u201cMr. Electric Blue\u201d video \u2014 had hit a wall in the writing process. They had a melody in mind, but couldn\u2019t come up with lyrics. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Jack\u2019s sitting there, and we\u2019re kind of goofing off, and he just goes, \u2018You know, what if you just did this?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it looked like he was gonna say something really good, and we\u2019ve been sitting there for an hour, and I\u2019m like, \u2018This is it!\u2019 And he goes, \u2018moonbeam ice cream taking off your blue jeans,\u2019\u201d Boone said in a goofy falsetto voice.<\/p>\n

The lyric ended up being a placeholder for the day, but Boone had a change of heart when he went home and listened to it. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u201dYou know what? Moonbeam ice cream,” he said with confidence.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Boone hinted during his appearance on \u201cFallon\u201d that people may be able to get some moonbeam ice cream once the album drops. <\/p>\n

And there\u2019s some recent news that is giving fans hope.<\/p>\n

Crumbl has a moonbeam ice cream cookie<\/p>\n

The fact that Boone is in possession of an ice cream truck is promising. <\/p>\n

Perhaps when the American leg of his tour \u2014 which sold out in a staggering nine seconds \u2014 kicks off later this summer, Boone will have a moonbeam ice cream flavor that he can share with fans (per the San Fransisco Chronicle<\/a>, Boone actually did recently share some with fans at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival, a recipe that included blueberry ice cream, blueberries, mini marshmallows and lemon juice). <\/p>\n

But in the meantime, the Utah-based cookie store Crumbl has created a moonbeam ice cream cookie that will be available at all locations for as long as supplies last from June 23-28. <\/p>\n

The Benson Boone treat is a chilled chocolate cookie that features cookie and cream pieces, with moonbeam ice cream-inspired<\/a> lemon, berry and marshmallow toppings, a drizzle of white icing, and cookies and cream sprinkle.<\/p>\n

Boone\u2019s rise to fame has been rapid \u2014 it\u2019s only been around five years since he even discovered he could sing, as the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported. <\/p>\n

After dropping out of \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d in 2021 \u2014 Katy Perry predicted he could\u2019ve won the whole thing \u2014 to pursue music on his own terms, Boone has been dedicating himself to the craft. <\/p>\n

Although he already has a smash hit in \u201cBeautiful Things\u201d and a Grammy nod, he doesn\u2019t appear to be taking any of it for granted.<\/p>\n
