PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles’ season came to an abrupt close Sunday with a 23-19 wild card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, leaving fans filing out of South Philadelphia disappointed and frustrated.<\/p>\n
Many said the outcome fell far short of expectations. “Very disappointing. We had that game. We should have won that game,” said Ed Chmiel of Lumberton, NJ.<\/p>\n
For some, the long trip home felt even heavier. “It will be a sad car ride home,” said Henry Shell of Colts Neck, NJ.<\/p>\n
Sam Salvo of Blue Bell called the loss especially painful, saying, “This was a huge let down. This was my Christmas present, and I got a loss.”<\/p>\n
Jake Johnson of Wayne, PA said the defeat stung after years of loyalty. “For the past 19 years of my life, I’ve poured everything I know and care about into this team, and this is what I get. After a Super Bowl season to come back and lose like this is pathetic,” he said.<\/p>\n
Not all fans were surprised. AB of Philadelphia said the performance was consistent with the team’s struggles throughout the year. “They played like they played all season man, so it ain’t even no surprise we lost that game,” he said.<\/p>\n
Although the Eagles held a lead entering the fourth quarter, several fans pointed to questionable play-calling and key mistakes as turning points. Ryan Barrett of Norwood criticized wide receiver A.J. Brown’s late-game drop, saying, “AJ Brown drops that ball, and he’s been complaining about getting the ball all year and what happens? When you throw it to him, he drops the ball.”<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the offseason, many called for significant changes, particularly on the coaching staff. “One thing for certain, and 2 things for sure Patullo outta there though. Go birds,” AB said.<\/p>\n
Salvo echoed that sentiment, adding, “I also want Kevin Patullo flipping burgers at the local McDonald’s or something. Whenever he’s an offensive coordinator, it’s like he’s flipping burgers – one side he’s cooking, the other half is completely raw.”<\/p>\n
Despite the disappointment, some fans expressed hope for a stronger return next year. “Tough way to end the season, but we’ll be back next year better than ever,” Barrett said.<\/p>\n
