Samsung’s Android 16<\/a>-based One UI 8<\/a> update is deep in its beta phase, with its stable rollout to commence soon. Users are expected to get their first look at the stable software with the South Korean tech giant’s Z Flip 7<\/a> and Z Fold 7<\/a> next month, but a lot of what’s coming has already made it out in beta.<\/p>\n

This includes the likes of an enhanced Now Bar<\/a> and Now Brief experience, Live Captions exclusively for phone calls<\/a>, new animations<\/a>, a new 90:10 split screen mode<\/a>, and a lot more. <\/p>\n

A big day for lock screen fans<\/p>\n

However, there is one potentially upcoming One UI 8 feature, borrowed right out of Android 16, that hasn’t yet made its way to One UI 8’s public beta builds. <\/p>\n

Android 16 introduced true HDR screenshots<\/a>. Screenshots of movies or other HDR content are saved in PNG with necessary metadata (gain maps) embedded on top, ensuring that they retain their HDR look on compatible screens. One UI 8’s latest closed beta build, ZYF7, adds support for capturing said screenshots, marking a significant upgrade over the previous SDR screenshot limitation.<\/p>\n

Potential public release soon<\/p>\n

The development was highlighted by credible industry leaker @UniverseIce<\/a> on X (Twitter), who said that the feature is available to them on their Galaxy S25 Ultra.<\/p>\n

Considering the implementation is live in closed beta, it is very likely to land on user devices with the next One UI 8 public beta build. Alternatively, we might get to try HDR screenshots out next month with the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7’s stable One UI 8. <\/p>\n

Once live, you should be able to capture detailed HDR screenshots from popular apps like Instagram, Threads, YouTube, Discord, Netflix, Disney+, and many other supported ones.<\/p>\n
