{"id":510058,"date":"2026-01-12T04:40:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T04:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/510058\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T04:40:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T04:40:11","slug":"read-screenplay-by-clint-bentley-greg-kwedar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/510058\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Screenplay By Clint Bentley &#038; Greg Kwedar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDeadline\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/read-the-screenplay\/\" id=\"auto-tag_read-the-screenplay\" data-tag=\"read-the-screenplay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the Screenplay<\/a> series highlighting the scripts behind the buzziest movies of the awards season continues with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/train-dreams\/\" id=\"auto-tag_train-dreams\" data-tag=\"train-dreams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Train Dreams<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix\" data-tag=\"netflix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix<\/a>\u2018s period drama directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/clint-bentley\/\" id=\"auto-tag_clint-bentley\" data-tag=\"clint-bentley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clint Bentley<\/a>, who again collaborated with his Sing Sing co-director and co-screenwriter <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/greg-kwedar\/\" id=\"auto-tag_greg-kwedar\" data-tag=\"greg-kwedar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greg Kwedar<\/a> to adapt Denis Johnson\u2019s 2011 Pulitzer-finalist novella. Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones, William H. Macy and Kerry Condon star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe film debuted at Sundance where it was<a data-id=\"1236273020\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/01\/netflix-train-dreams-acquisition-sundance-1236273020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> scooped up by Netflix <\/a>and, as if carried on the railroads built by its protagonist, has gained steam ever since for its tale of Robert Grainier (played by Edgerton), a laborer in the early 20th century Pacific Northwest who we watch experience love, loss and the rapidly changing world around him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTrain Dreams this week picked up a Best Picture <a data-id=\"1236676986\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/01\/pga-awards-producers-guild-nominations-2026-list-1236676986\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PGA Award nomination<\/a> after landing four <a data-id=\"1236634418\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/spirit-awards-nominations-2026-1236634418\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent Spirit Award<\/a> and five <a data-id=\"1236636613\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/critics-choice-awards-2026-nominations-list-1236636613\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Critics Choice nominations<\/a>, the latter including for Best Picture, Best Actor for Edgerton and Best Adapted Screenplay. The script from Bentley and Kwedar, who scored an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for their prison-set Sing Sing, repeated as this year\u2019s <a data-id=\"1236634609\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/national-board-of-review-2025-winners-list-1236634609\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Board of Review<\/a> screenplay winner and scored noms at the <a data-id=\"1236599967\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/2025-gotham-award-nominations-1236599967\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gotham Awards<\/a> and at the <a data-id=\"1236647722\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/usc-scripter-awards-2026-nominations-list-1236647722\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USC Scripters<\/a>, the latter of which honors the screenwriters and the author of the book from which the film had been adapted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEdgerton also landed a <a data-id=\"1236640935\" data-type=\"pmc_list\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/lists\/golden-globes-nominations-2026-movies-tv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Golden Globes nom<\/a>, as did the film\u2019s title song by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner. The song was also of three mentions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/oscars-shortlists-2026-1236650066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oscar shortlists<\/a>, which also included spots for Adolpho Veloso\u2019s cinematography and Dessner\u2019s score.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe film itself borrows from Bentley and Kwedar\u2019s penchant for telling real stories (both bonded over their love of documentary) using narrative storytelling, as they did with Sing Sing, their 2006 debut Transpecos about U.S. border agents, and their 2021 pic Jockey (starring Clifton Collins Jr who also is in Train Dreams).
