\n\tRest assured, Abbott Elementary<\/a> fans: Viewers will soon be clued into why Chris Perfetti<\/a>\u2018s overly enthusiastic yet lovable teacher Jacob is the way he is.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the star, who recently spoke to People in a new interview<\/a>, the beloved ABC<\/a> mockumentary will introduce new characters and further backstory in the latter half of Season 5 to shed some light on Jacob\u2019s origins. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe get to meet some of the people that make Jacob the way he is, and I\u2019m so thrilled by that,\u201d he told the mag.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdding of his character\u2019s lore, he said: \u201cAnd yeah, I think we\u2019re exploring this idea that Jacob, seeing what happens when Jacob gets what he wants. And I would be excited to play around with that next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn previous seasons, the show explored Jacob\u2019s personal life via his relationship with ex-boyfriend Zach (Larry Owens) and relocation to Melissa\u2019s (Lisa Ann Walter) spare bedroom. In Season 4, the show introduced Jacob\u2019s charismatic younger brother Caleb (Tyler Tom\u00e1s Perez), whom he at times feels overshadowed by.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough the Quinta Brunson-created show is awaiting its sixth season renewal, Perfetti said he is \u201cso blessed. I feel like as soon as I have a good idea for Jacob, [the writers] have a better one. We get to do some really cool stuff in the second half of Season 5.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with Deadline<\/a>, co-showrunner Justin Halpern noted the writers\u2019 room has already been ruminating on the \u201cbasic building blocks of what a Season 6 might look like.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPatrick Schumaker, who also showruns, added: \u201cWe\u2019re still breaking the last three episodes of Season 5, when we come back from the holiday. But, there\u2019s some big milestones planned that will clearly set up a dynamic in Season 6.\u201d<\/p>\n
