{"id":510965,"date":"2026-01-12T14:04:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T14:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/510965\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T14:04:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T14:04:12","slug":"bbc-verify-live-verifying-videos-of-clashes-and-casualties-from-iran-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/510965\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Verify Live: Verifying videos of clashes and casualties from Iran protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sanctioned tankers identified in the English channel, despite UK warningspublished at 13:17 GMT<\/p>\n<p>13:17 GMT<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-8kvzjk-Contributor etflsgg2\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/afc178ab-c8e4-401a-a613-266e3dfde003.jpg.webp.webp\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" class=\"ssrcss-11yxrdo-Image edrdn950\"\/><strong>Kayleen Devlin<\/strong><br \/>BBC Verify senior journalist<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC Verify has also been following sanctioned oil tankers travelling through the English Channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy8pn7jgy3no\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">despite warnings by UK ministers that shadow fleet <\/a>vessels can legally be stopped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Of the three that we&#8217;ve idenfitied, location data from vessel-tracking website MarineTraffic indicate that both the Ariadne and White Condor I are currently passing through the Channel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Data for White Condor I, which is falsely flying the flag of the Caribbean island Aruba, put the tanker is to the south of Portsmouth, travelling east.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Before entering the Channel, the tanker stopped at a Brazilian port in mid-December, unloading its cargo. Prior to that, its tracking data indicates White Condor I had come from a port in Russia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A map of the channel with the positions of the three ships marked. White Condor I is the furthest east, followed by Ariadne and then Anastasiia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/0f6d708a-2e12-4c8b-b81f-74e6f5330faf.png.webp.webp\"  width=\"1600\" height=\"1258\" class=\"ssrcss-11yxrdo-Image edrdn950\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Tracking data for Ariadne, which is listed in Russia\u2019s maritime registry, places the ship a short distance behind the White Condor, also sailing east.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">MarineTraffic data indicates Ariadne is carrying cargo. It shows the tanker docked at a Russian port in mid-November, before travelling to Egypt and then heading north towards the Channel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC Verify has also identified a third tanker, Anastasiia, sailing in the Channel.
