Ever walk a mile in the rain for a slice of pizza only to get there and its closed? Not to say we did, but our offices are a mile away from Pizza Leila. In fact, this was one of our favorite pizza shops in Dallas<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Alas, that\u2019s how we found out that Pizza Leila, on the border of downtown and The Arts District, has closed. A representative from the restaurant wants to reassure fans that the location in NorthPark Mall remains open.<\/p>\n

However, when the lease came up for renewal at the Flora Street mothership location, they decided to pass. This is something we\u2019re hearing more and more often from locally owned restaurants.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Pizza Leila was a pandemic baby: when downtown shut down during the pandemic in 2020, the crew at Sloane\u2019s Corner at the Trammell Crow Center had a full working kitchen on their hands, but no customers. Chef Ji Kang looked for a way to keep his staff employed and created a to-go pizza concept. The thick-crust Sicilian-style pizza was a hit, so they eventually parlayed the concept into a stand-alone spot.<\/p>\n
