However, as that is lengthy (about 75 miles), the department advises anyone planning drive through the area on the days of the closures to do so before 9 a.m. or after 2 p.m.

Details on bridge replacment project causing closure on US 60

This week’s closures are due to the replacement of the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges, which are east of Superior.

Crews are currently building the new Queen Creek Bridge next to the existing one. The original bridge will be removed as soon as the new one is complete.

The Waterfall Canyon Bridge, located just east of the Queen Creek Tunnel, is being converted into multiple box culverts to improve drainage in the area.

ADOT said the project was necessary as the bridges no longer meet modern standards for bridge construction.

The project began in 2024 and is scheduled for completion later this year.

Get the latest KTAR News 92.3 FM traffic alerts sent straight to your phone by texting “TRAFFIC” to 620620.

Follow @J_Vinton52

We want to hear from you.

Have a story idea or tip?
