Philadelphia’s offense took a major step back compared to last season in virtually every measurable category under Patullo, including the eye test.

Despite having arguably the most talented offense in the league, the Eagles consistently struggled to move the ball and put up points all season. Some fans held out hope that there was another gear that the offense could reach in the postseason, but that wasn’t the case, it was just more of the same against San Francisco.

There were rumblings about Patullo’s job security prior to the playoffs, and those rumblings have now reached a fever pitch after the way the offense flamed out against the Niners. The Eagles need to move on from Patullo. That’s clear to everyone.

But in addition to just firing Patullo, the team also needs to bring in an experienced OC as his replacement. The Eagles’ offense is built to win now, and it certainly has the talent to do so. They need a coordinator who can maximize that collective talent and put it in the best position to succeed. Patullo didn’t do that.

More: Two Philadelphia Eagles players earn first-team All-Pro honors

A clear trend has emerged for the Eagles under head coach Nick Sirianni. When the team has an experienced offensive coordinator, good things happen.

The Birds went to the Super Bowl with Shane Steichen as the OC in 2022. They lost in the Wild Card Round with Brian Johnson in 2023. They won the Super Bowl with Kellen Moore in 2024 and then lost in the Wild Card Round again this year with Patullo in that role.

Steichen and Moore both had previous experience in the role before taking over in Philadelphia, while Johnson and Patullo didn’t. The Eagles can’t afford to make that same mistake again. There are several experienced coordinators available on the market. The Eagles need to go and get one.

Bolster the offensive line

The offensive line was a major strength for the Eagles last season, but the unit regressed in a major way in 2025. Philadelphia had the top-ranked line in the league last season, but dropped to No. 7 this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Injuries undoubtedly played a part in the unit’s struggles, as guys like Lane Johnson and Cam Jurgens missed some legitimate time, and with some improved health the unit should improve. But the Eagles also need to add to it, through the draft and potentially through free agency.

More: Eagles projected to address glaring defensive need in first round of 2026 NFL Draft

The Eagles have eight picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, and a couple of those picks should be dedicated to strengthening the line. Doing so could help them bounce back in a big way in 2026.

Bring in a new kicker

Jake Elliot is an Eagles legend, and he will always be remembered and celebrated for his contributions to two Super Bowl victories, but it might be time for the Eagles to move on. Elliot struggled throughout the 2025 season, which culminated in a crucial missed extra point against San Francisco in the playoffs.

On the season, Elliot made just 20 of his 27 field goal attempts. That equates to 74 percent, which is the second-lowest mark of his career. Over the past two seasons, Elliot has converted just five of his 15 attempts from 50-plus yards during the regular season, indicating declining long-distance accuracy.

More: How many picks do the Philadelphia Eagles have in 2026 NFL Draft?

Elliot has been extremely accurate throughout his career in the postseason, as he’s converted 28 of 29 attempts in the playoffs, but it’s hard to have too much confidence in him in big moments at this point given his recent struggles.

Kickers have gotten better in recent years, and the Eagles will want to add a guy they can feel more confident in when it comes to nailing long kicks.

3 things Philadelphia Eagles must do over the offseason originally appeared on The Sporting News.
