Opening in La Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the last few years, La Mesa has gotten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/comebackcoffee.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new coffee shops<\/a>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomagazine.com\/food-drink\/bougie-cheese-shop-la-mesa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">artisanal cheese shop<\/a>, and even an outpost of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomagazine.com\/food-drink\/incoming-shawarma-guys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number one restaurant of 2020<\/a> (according to Yelp). Now, the quaint East County hamlet is getting even more delicious with its very own <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomagazine.com\/listen\/happy-half-hour-podcast\/stella-jeans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stella Jean\u2019s<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomagazine.com\/watch\/first-look\/first-look-pop-pie-co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pop Pie Co.<\/a>, which will open side-by-side this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Located at 8247 La Mesa Blvd. (Pop Pie Co.) and 8243 La Mesa Blvd. (Stella Jean\u2019s), the two spaces span approximately 1,300 square feet each, replacing Village Pet Salon and Act II, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs8.com\/article\/news\/local\/working-for-you\/la-mesa-village-shop-closure-rent-tripled\/509-0fdecde9-c6c9-4255-b700-17b7c22e70ff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">moved a few blocks<\/a> down the street in 2024. Real estate brokerage firm <a href=\"https:\/\/locationmatters.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Location Matters<\/a> handled the deal, which will be Stella Jean\u2019s ninth location and Pop Pie\u2019s seventh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomagazine.com\/food-drink\/food-news\/amor-ice-cream\/?utm_source=internal&amp;utm_medium=internal_link&amp;utm_campaign=highlight_embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/arely-ice-cream-1024x717.jpeg.webp.webp\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Founder and CEO Steven Torres says both locations will offer the same ice cream and pie menus as its other locations, as well as a full coffee bar in Pop Pie.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Torres says his team has been looking for locations in La Mesa for several years, and hadn\u2019t been able to find the right spaces for both concepts until now. \u201cWe just want to build community out there\u2014be where people want us, and also where we really see opportunity to do what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DRpeGL8Er8l\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>And there\u2019s certainly opportunity\u2014right now, you can count the number of dedicated ice cream shops in La Mesa city limits on one hand. (There are quite a few frozen yogurt shops, as well as places that serve ice cream or gelato, but very few legit scoop shops.) And while Torres says Pop Pie\u2019s somewhat niche menu doesn\u2019t quite fit everywhere, their slow and strategic growth strategy over the past 10 years has given them confidence to know where its globally-inspired flavors will work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been so many more [locations] that we\u2019ve said no to, just because it has to feel right [and] you have to be wanted,\u201d he says.
