{"id":512999,"date":"2026-01-13T11:40:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T11:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/512999\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T11:40:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T11:40:14","slug":"elon-musks-x-probed-by-uk-watchdog-over-grok-deepfakes-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/512999\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk\u2019s X probed by UK watchdog over Grok deepfakes \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said last week she expected Ofcom to move quickly on the issue, and that the regulator would have her \u201cfull support\u201d to block access to X in the U.K. if the platform refused to comply with the law.<\/p>\n<p>Other parties want Ofcom to move faster, or get out of the way: last week the Liberal Democrats urged the National Crime Agency to take charge (arguing the situation went well beyond Ofcom\u2019s remit as communications watchdog) and said Ofcom should block X from operating in the U.K. while a full investigation takes place. \u201cWe cannot wait for a far off verdict,\u201d the Liberal Democrats\u2019 tech spokesperson Victoria Collins said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>But Nigel Farage, leader of Britain&#8217;s poll-topping Reform UK Party, struck a markedly different tone Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Accusing the Labour government of \u201csuppression of free speech,\u201d he added: \u201cNothing from the current set of regulators in government would surprise me when it comes to the suppression of free speech. Do we like and welcome the particular feature on Grok that has made the news over the weekend? No, but let&#8217;s talk to Grok. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;ve already made one or two steps in our direction.
