Surely you can\u2019t be serious: There\u2019s an unreleased director\u2019s cut of \u201cAirplane!\u201d and you can soon see it in Upstate New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cAirplane! Live with Julie Hagerty and Robert Hays!\u201d is coming to the Kodak Center in Rochester<\/a> on May 29 and The Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater in Syracuse<\/a> on Oct. 8. Both events will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a special screening of the 1980 movie, followed by a Q&A with stars Julie Hagerty and Robert Hays.<\/p>\n

Tickets for both \u201cAirplane! Live\u201d events go on sale Friday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster<\/a>. Tickets for the Syracuse event can also be purchased in person at the Solvay Bank Box Office at The Oncenter(760 S. State Street, Syracuse, NY 13202).<\/p>\n

A limited number of \u201cFirst Class\u201d VIP meet & greet tickets will be available as add-ons for a photo with Hagerty and Hays, as well as a tour poster signed by the pair. (Just don\u2019t call them Shirley.)<\/p>\n

\u201cAirplane!<\/a>\u201d is a highly quotable comedy classic written and directed by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. Hays stars as Ted Striker, a former fighter pilot who must safely land a commercial airplane with help from flight attendant Elaine Dickinson (Hagerty) after the rest of the plane\u2019s crew becomes sick with food poisoning. The cast also includes Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lloyd Bridges, Lorna Patterson, Jonathan Banks, and an inflatable \u201cautopilot\u201d named Otto.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s considered one of the greatest comedy films of all time and was a landmark for the parody\/spoof genre. The Zucker brothers also went on to make \u201cThe Naked Gun\u201d movies with Nielsen (recently rebooted with Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr.), while David Zucker also worked on \u201cBASEketball\u201d (with \u201cSouth Park\u201d co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone) and three \u201cScary Movie\u201d sequels.<\/p>\n

Hagerty and Hays are expected to share behind-the-scenes stories and memories from the making of \u201cAirplane,\u201d which will be shown on the big screen as a director\u2019s cut. David Zucker told Cinema Blend<\/a> that this version is actually shorter to improve the pacing.<\/p>\n

\u201cJerry, Jim and I recut \u2018Airplane!\u2019 but it\u2019s three minutes shorter,\u201d Zucker said. \u201cIt\u2019s the only director\u2019s cut where it\u2019s actually shorter than the original. But we cut it. We trimmed it because of pace. In the 45 years since it\u2019s been released, we\u2019ve shown it all over the world. We got it in our heads, well, this joke goes on too long.
